January 2020 Wrap Up

January 2020
January was a pretty good month.  My husband and oldest daughter both had birthdays to kick off the month.  My younger daughter went back to college and our house went back to an empty nest.

We had some snow and some really cold days but there were a few nicer days thrown in that helped me see the light at the end of the tunnel.  I did get my butt back to the gym and am working to get in better shape.  I am getting older and having more aches and pains so I think it is important to keep moving.

I read a lot in January.  I completed 19 titles but some of the books were really short so it isn’t all that impressive.  I did tackle a fairly long book as well so maybe it does even out a bit.  It was nice to start the year off so well but I don’t think that there is any way I will be able to keep up the pace for the rest of the year.

  1. It's been quite cold here for months now, but still not snow . . . I'm sad because I love it and I always hope to see some every year, but it seems like it has decided to skip the visit this year ๐Ÿ™ Anyway, it really looks like you had a great month! I'm gonna check some of these books, there are a few I know I could enjoy! Thanks, Carole ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. I admire you for getting to the gym so much. I really need to, but after 12.5 hours work/travel, my momentum just stops, and I can't do it. Good for you! And, hey, 19 books, and your stats are great too.

  3. I read a lot of short books this year too-I really need to get back into normal length books again. Some may be short but that is another 19 off your pile and they all count in the end!

  4. Sensational reading month, Carole! And, I think that is fab that you are back at your gym workouts. I was forced to not do much for a few weeks with an infection and feel the extra burn from losing momentum not getting out for my daily walks or exercises.

Yay for one more percentage uptick at Net Galley and doing great on your challenges. I have a feeling I'm going to put Smoke Bitten on my favorites when I get the chance to read it. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Good for you for hitting the gym. I need to get back to taking regular walks. That fell by the wayside when the holidays started and I havenโ€™t started back up. I think 19 books in awesome! I think I read maybe 7. ๐Ÿ™‚ Echoes Between Us and Heartland were also two of my January reads.

  6. It looks like a great month with some wonderful books. I have Smoke Bitten but haven't read it yet. I did love The Secret Chapter also.

Anne – Books of My Heart

  7. Wow, 19's great even if some were shorter! Glad you had a good month. And congrats on the stats too!

Love the cover of Smoke bitten. I need to get back to that series.

  8. Sometimes shorter books really are a blessing because it gives you a headstart going into the rest of the year without falling behind on reading goals. I am always thankful for the books I read with Eleanor and also my student groups because those give me breathing room so I do not panic about the ridiculous goal I set for myself for a given year.

  9. 19 books is awesome! Length doesn't matter. The short ones balance out the longer ones.

I've only recently started the Mercy Thompson series but I'm glad to know that it's still going so strong! Smoke Bitten is getting a lot of love at the moment. ๐Ÿ™‚
