This week’s neglected book

Rosemary and Rue by Seanan McGuire
Series: October Daye #1
Publication Date: September 1, 2009
 Publisher: DAW

October “Toby” Daye, a changeling who is half human and half fae, has been an outsider from birth. After getting burned by both sides of her heritage, Toby has denied the Faerie world, retreating to a “normal” life. Unfortunately for her, the Faerie world has other ideas…

The murder of Countess Evening Winterrose pulls Toby back into the fae world. Unable to resist Evening’s dying curse, which binds her to investigate, Toby must resume her former position as knight errant and renew old alliances. As she steps back into fae society, dealing with a cast of characters not entirely good or evil, she realizes that more than her own life will be forfeited if she cannot find Evening’s killer.

Why did I add Rosemary and Rue to my bookshelf?

I have a hardcover copy of this book sitting on my bookshelf and a digital copy on my Kindle.  This is an author that I have wanted to read more from for a very long time and this series is one that I really want to read.  The 15th book in the series is scheduled to release in September 2021 so it’s not a short series.  I know that a lot of my friends on Goodreads like this series and I think I will too.  It’s just a matter of finding the time to actually sit down to read it.

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it to others?

  1. This is the only book in the Daye series I have read so far and I really enjoyed it. I absolutely love her Ghost Roads series and cannot wait to read the third book. I hope you enjoy Rosemary and Rue when you get a chance to read it. It's worth it.

  2. I own this one and have always wanted to read this series. I would be happy to buddy read it with you at some point. Also, after that I might turn it into a Read-along for an upcoming year. I often read just the first book to make sure I don't hate it before I set up a Read-along for a long series. In fact I thought it might be the Read-along this year and then things took a different turn.

  3. I've been meaning to read books by Seanan McGuire. I've only read Parasite which she wrote as Mira Grant. Hope you enjoy this when you get to it, Carole!
