While most of the world has drowned beneath the sudden rising waters of a climate apocalypse, Dinétah (formerly the Navajo reservation) has been reborn. The gods and heroes of legend walk the land, but so do monsters.

Maggie Hoskie is a Dinétah monster hunter, a supernaturally gifted killer. When a small town needs help finding a missing girl, Maggie is their last—and best—hope. But what Maggie uncovers about the monster is much larger and more terrifying than anything she could imagine.

Maggie reluctantly enlists the aid of Kai Arviso, an unconventional medicine man, and together they travel to the rez to unravel clues from ancient legends, trade favors with tricksters, and battle dark witchcraft in a patchwork world of deteriorating technology.

As Maggie discovers the truth behind the disappearances, she will have to confront her past—if she wants to survive.

Welcome to the Sixth World.

Why did I add Trail of Lightning to my bookshelf?

I bought this book a couple of years ago because it sounds awesome and I love the cover. Yes, I am not above buying a book because of the cover. I actually didn’t realize that it was part of a series until I put this post together. Although it has been a couple of books since the second book so I am curious about whether a third book will actually be released. I am not sure when I will get to this one but I definitely plan on reading it at some point.

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it to others?

  1. I’ve never heard of this one, but I certainly relate to buying a book based on the cover. My latest read, All Boys Aren’t Blue was one such purchase.

  2. I nearly got this one when it was on sale because I thought it looked good, too. I’ll look forward to seeing what you think about it.

  3. I think see this quite a lot back then and have been curious. I absolutely like dystopian themes back then, even now, I guess. Hope you enjoy it when you get to it, Carole!

  4. It doesn’t look like my kind of book but I can definitely see why the cover grabbed you! Definitely eye catching. I hope you do enjoy it!
