My Life

This was quite the week. We got our daughter settled into her new campus apartment on Friday so our nest is once again empty. The normal round trip drive to her school and back home takes about 5 hours but there was a fatal accident just a little bit ahead of us on the way there and we sat in one place for about 40 minutes. Driving past the wreckage was heartbreaking once we were finally able to move. My daughter’s apartment is on the third floor so I was very thankful that the furniture was provided by the school and we just had to carry all of her belongings up the stairs.

I guess the second big event of the week was my ongoing battle with insurance. The hailstorm at the beginning of July caused quite a bit of damage to our home. Insurance has approved a new roof but they are claiming that the hail damage to our patio awning is not only not covered, but that it is not even hail damage. I am beyond mad and might have lost my temper. So I have to pay my $1500 deductible plus the full cost of replacing my patio awning if I want my home to look like it did before the storm.

Last week I mentioned that I thought I was having some thyroid problems. This week I had an appointment with my doctor and learned that my thyroid levels were at the very low end of the normal range. I hate it when this happens because I am with the normal limits but I feel horrible. The doctor did agree to increase my medication a bit. I really feel like my thyroid is one of the major reasons that I can’t seem to get things done lately and hope that I will have enough energy to keep up with life with this medication change.

I once again fell behind in all things related to the blog. My evenings were spent getting my daughter ready to leave for college and my days were spent working (and trying to get the office ready to move). I didn’t even get all of the reviews written that I had planned. I hope to be much more consistent next week.

What I’m Reading

I finished three books this week. I thought that The Introvert’s Guide to Online Dating by Emma Hart was a fun romance. Paper & Blood by Kevin Hearne was just as good as I had hoped it would be. I also had a good time reading Feral Creatures by Kira Jane Buxton.

I am actually between books right now. I usually have no problem deciding what I want to read next but I am at a loss right now. Who knows what I will end up picking up next.

Books Added

Hello, Transcriber by Hannah Morrissey (Publisher); Billy Summers by Stephen King (Purchased); Paper & Blood by Kevin Hearne (Penguin Random House Reader Rewards)

Finlay Donovan Knocks ‘Em Dead by Elle Cosimano (NetGalley)

  1. Sorry about the insurance company. I always feel like the companies never want to pay out when the time comes. That’s my experience, and why I never buy ANY of those added insurance packages. Nope. Only what’s required. Hope they can get the meds right for you. My mom has a thyroid, so I have seen the struggle when the levels are off. I am excited about the new Finlay Donovan book. The first one was lots of fun.

  2. Sorry to hear about your thyroid acting up and all. Hope things get better for your health soon. And ugh, traffic on a big road trip. That is never fun.

Nice new reads! New to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

  3. Argh on fighting with the insurance company! Whew, that accident sounds horrific. Relieved you got your daughter to school and you back home safely. I’m glad the doctor was able to try a new dosage to see if that helps with your thyroid. Yay for some good reading this week and hopefully you’ll get caught up on your reviews.

    Have a good one, Carole!

  4. well, i wish my bookshelves looked like that. i am redoing them, but there are so many books they are stacked all over the floor too. maybe i’ll take some pics and share them some time. sorry about the insurance company. i think here in florida if you have your pool in a cage, they won’t cover that either. i feel most insurance companies spend too much time trying to figure out how not to pay claims. that’s why we buy a portable gazebo for our patio and throw it away when it’s worn out. need something to keep the heat down

  5. It’s always something. I hope with your daughter off to school, hopefully the office move will be over soon and you can get a bit of a break. There are so many great books out Aug 31 and Sep 7 that I am overloaded. Plus too many I got as ebooks instead of audio. I hope the weather cools down and you get more time to relax and read!

  6. Glad to hear your daughter has settled in.
Hope the new medication makes you feel better.
I have been in a major reading slump these days.. I am so tired by the end of the day I just want to sleep.
I have had the kids pick out my next read all summer. I see that I tend to favor the newer things on my shelf so now the boys pick something out for me.

  7. Insurance companies can be such fun to deal with. That’s so frustrating. Hopefully the medicine change will help. I know how frustrating it can be when test results don’t explain things. I hope you are feeling better and are having a great week!

  8. Wow….what a crazy week you have had there. Hope you are able to adapt to being empty nesters once again. Insurance battles are the WORST and hope you get it all figured out.

  9. Ugh, sorry to hear about the issue with the insurance company. It’s such a racket. You pay the premiums and then when you need it they have excuses of why something is not covered. So frustrating. I hope this week is easier!

  10. Sorry about the thyroid issues – I hope that adjusting your meds a bit will be helpful. I have various medical issues going on, and sometimes I don’t know what’s affecting me at any given moment. I do feel like I’m less able to concentrate these days but hopefully that will change as I just seem so behind on things like blogging and reading. Sigh.

I’m really curious about the sequel to Finlay Donovan. I didn’t LOVE the first book, but I feel like I’d enjoy the second one more since everything has been set up already.
