My Life

What a week! I have been dreading our office move since I found out it was happening. We got the keys to the new space on September 1st and have until the 14th to complete the move. The office is moving from an 8,000 square foot building to a space with 3,000 square feet. I am one of only 3 people that work in that location and one of the employees had a vacation scheduled before the dates for the move were announced. Do you have any idea how overwhelming it is to pack a building that size that is filled to the brim? I did a lot of physical work this week and next week will be even worse. I am not impressed by the whole thing so far.

I was devastated by the fact that a friend of ours died from Covid this week. He lived in another state so we didn’t get to spend as much time with him over the years but I always enjoyed the visits we did share. He was only 53 and I know that he will be missed by many.

On a positive note, the doors and windows that we ordered back in March were finally installed this week. This was a pretty big project with 3 basement windows and 5 doors. The new sliding glass doors have blinds inside the door so we were able to ditch the vertical blinds that have been driving me crazy since we bought the house a year ago.

I have been mentally drained at the end of each day since the move started and haven’t wanted to do anything online. I have not been sleeping well either. I needed this 3 day weekend more than I would have even imagined. Hopefully, things will calm down soon.

What I’m Reading

I finished three books this week which is pretty good when you consider how my week went. I have a weak spot for hockey romances so Hard Fall by Brenda Rothert and Kat Mizera was a book that I just couldn’t resist. I listened to Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia early in the week and liked it but not quite as much as I had hoped that I would. The Santa Suit by Mary Kay Andrews was a fun shorter read.

I am about halfway through Witch Please by Ann Aguirre and am enjoying it so far. I picked up Graveyard Fields by Steven Tingle on Saturday and hope to finish before the holiday weekend is over.

Books Added

Witch Please by Ann Aguirre (NetGalley); To All the Dogs I’ve Loved Before by Lizzie Shane (NetGalley); Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr (Libro.fm); The Inheritance of Orquidea Divina by Zoraida Cordova (Libro.fm); Heard It in a Love Song by Tracey Garvis Graves (NetGalley)

The Seven Visitations of Sydney Burgess by Andy Marino (Publisher); Graveyard Fields by Steven Tingle (Publisher); Velvet Was the Night by Silvia Morena-Garcia (Purchased); Portrait of a Scotsman by Evie Dunmore (Purchased); The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood (Purchased)

  1. I don’t envy you that move, Carole. Moving itself is a chore but to have to move such a big space into a smaller one will be even more of a pain.

I am sorry for the loss of your friend to COVID. Sending hugs your way. COVID has taken so many and it’s even harder when it hits close to home.

I am glad you are enjoying Witch Please. I was thinking of picking that up soon. I hope you enjoy your reading this week.

Have a good week, Carole. Take care.

  2. ((HUGS)) Carole. So sorry for your loss and that you are having a rough week. I just finished The Love Hypothesis yesterday. It was wonderful! I hope you enjoy all your new books.

  3. Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend. Also sorry to hear the move being as stressful as imagined. Especially since you’re moving into a smaller location.

Nice new reads though! Lots of new to me ones here but I hope you enjoy them all!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

  4. does sound like a very busy week. i want to get two new sliding doors, and the blinds inside sound like a great idea. have to check those out. the house renovations we were going to do last year, before covid, are now put on hold indefinitely, but maybe we can pick off a thing or two here and there

  5. Years ago, I had to pack up six school classrooms in the summer without a/c and then help unpack them at the new building and there was only a one-month window from one end to the other so I know exactly what you mean and how your body feels (okay, I think you probably have it worse b/c I know how my body feels now that I’m older and I couldn’t do what I did fifteen years ago, LOL).
Yay for getting in some reading and listening this week and pulling in a new haul. Those blinds inside the sliding doors sounds great. I still have mini-blinds on our back glass door and between the humans and the animals, those take some abuse.

    Have a good week, Carole!

  6. Wow it is hard to believe with such a small staff they let someone take vacation in the middle of it. What if one of the rest of you gets sick? I’m sorry about your friend. COVID is no joke and I’m sad people don’t take things more seriously. Children under 12 can’t get vaccinated yet. We go out as needed with masks, even though we are vaccinated. Enjoy your break for the holiday and those new doors and windows. Did you think when you moved (as I did somewhat) that everything was set for awhile? I knew I would plant food and flower gardens though.

    • We did know that we would do some bigger projects when we bought this house. We have done a lot. We upgraded the electrical panel to a 200 amp panel and added some lighting in several areas. We moved the fence from the back corner of the house to the front corner to add some much-needed space for the dogs to play. We had a 10 ft x 10 ft Tuff Shed installed. The 3 windows and 5 doors were another big investment. We are going to be getting a new roof and I am also planning to go ahead and get new siding, trim, and gutters. I am planning to add a 3 foot tall stone wall across the front of the house when we do the siding. After that, we might actually be done for a while 🙂

  7. I am sorry to hear it has been such a draining week for you especially in hearing about the loss of your friend. Its always so heartbreaking when we lose someone close to us. Thoughts and prayers going out to you and hope its a lighter week for you.

  8. I’m so sorry to hear about your family friend. I also get the chaos around having to move so quickly! My office was slated to move right around the time COVID came to the US. It was such a pain!

I hope you love the new Zoraida Cordova book!

  9. Oh, what a week, Carole. In between the move and the loss of your friend no wonder you’re drained. I’m so sorry to hear about his passing. What a loss. 🙁 I certainly hope this week is better.

  10. I’m so sorry for your loss. It sounds like quite the stressful week. Moving is no fun and moving into a smaller space while keeping the same amount of stuff is less fun! Hopefully you were able to get some rest this week and didn’t overdo it too much.
