My Life

I continue to be exhausted by my work’s move. I finally was able to get my desk set up in my office on Thursday which should be much better than the table in the warehouse that I have had to deal with for the past 2 weeks. Not only is the new workplace further from my house, but there is also a ton of road construction. Before the move, my commute was 10 minutes if I hit all of the lights. Now, my commute has been roughly 45 minutes. I am using a lot more gas every week in addition to the extra time. I am not sure if I want to do this long-term.

It is usually more than enough for us to just go to work during the week. We are old and get tired if we have to do too much…lol. This week we also had to take one of the dogs to the vet and coordinate getting our truck to the shop to repair the exhaust that had rusted through. On Saturday, we run a couple of errands and finally did a second coat of paint in our living room. We plan to start working on the kitchen/dining/hallway area next week. I do not enjoy painting but it really needs to be done.

Today, I am planning to have my mom, oldest daughter, and my sister with her family get together for a meal. I haven’t seen my sister or her family for some time. They came to help celebrate my youngest daughter’s 21st birthday and then my 7 year old nephew was diagnosed with Covid. His twin sister was negative but had to stay in quarantine for a couple of weeks, delaying her start of school. Hopefully, I can get back into the swing of things blogwise this week.

What I’m Reading

I only finished 2 books this week. I had a couple of days that it was impossible to listen to audiobooks at work (which is where I do most of my listening) but things got back on track at the end of the week. I listened to The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward early in the week and enjoyed all of the twists and turns. I started reading Look What You Made Me Do by Elaine Murphy and just could not stop. I had a lot of fun with it and plan to post my review next week.

I have only read a bit of The Origins of Iris by Beth Lewis but I am eager to dedicate a bit more time to it this week. I am at the 60% mark on The Huntress by Kate Quinn so I should definitely be able to finish it this week. This is one of the 4 books that I have left to review on Edelweiss and I am eager to knock it off my list. And it has been really good so far! I just started reading Chasing the Boogeyman by Richard Chizmar and I cannot wait for the chance to sit down and read some more.

  1. Ugh, what a change in your commute. Plus road construction. 🙁 Seems like this move is proving to be a pain in more ways that one. But hooray for the family get-together! I’m seeing my sister today, too, and it’s been quite a while since I’ve seen her.

  2. Sorry to hear about your nephew. I hope he’s ok. Hang in there! I feel you on the commute. I now leave at 5 am and get home at 5 pm, but I am bitter because most of my team is still work from home. The time and money they save feels like a slap in my face.

    • He really never got very sick. It was weird that he was allowed to go back to school about a week before his sister who only tested negative. I would not be happy about having to go into the office while others were still working from home.

  3. Wow, I do not miss commuting! I have been retired now since 2005, but I did a lot of traveling to visit friends and family for a while. Then I ended up in “prison” (the assisted living, lol) in 2019 and gave up my apartment and my car. Sigh.

Now I am happily settled into my new apartment where I escaped in July…but I miss that car!

Not for commutes, though. Just for running around town, etc.

I like the look of Look What You Made Me Do!

Enjoy your get-together with family. Here are my WEEKLY UPDATES

    • I wouldn’t want to be without a car but commuting through construction is not my idea of fun. I am so glad that you are happy in your new apartment, Laurel-Rain!

  4. I hope things get finished up and you get a bit of a break. You don’t know old yet! Even if you move into a newer home (I did) that was freshly painted and carpeted, there were still a lot of things the previous owner hadn’t maintained or updated. I’m trying to get the last garden bed set up in the front of the house. After the kitchen reno, I hope to be done and just do the regular maintenance like mowing etc for awhile.

    • I hope to get a lot older but I am definitely not young anymore. I am in bed by 9pm every night these days. I moved into another house in the same subdivision that I have been living in since 2000 so the new house is the same age as the old one. We are trying to get things the way we want it so that we can just keep it nice. We put things off in the last house we had, largely because we just didn’t have the money to do the things we wanted. Our plan is to try to do a little something every year. We really should have painted before we moved in but we are getting to it now. Have a great week!

    • It just really sucks that I am now having to spend an extra hour every day just getting to and from my job. I turned down a couple of jobs over the years because I didn’t want to commute. But on the plus side, I can listen to audiobooks all day at work which might be hard to do at most jobs. I just need some time to adjust and see how it goes.

  5. Yeah, that is a significant difference in your drive time, but glad you were able to get your desk set up. I’m okay with the actual painting, but I do hate taping things off, removing the hardware, etc to prep.
Glad you enjoyed both your books. Look forward to seeing what you thought of See What You Made Me Do. Yay for only having four more to go at Edelweiss.
    Enjoy your family visit!

    • It makes a huge difference having my workspace set up! My husband always grabs the roller when it comes to painting so I am stuck doing most of the taping and all of the trim work with a brush. It is a lot of work! I am really looking forward to getting caught up with Edelweiss!

    • Piper is absolutely fine! She just needed to go in for her regular check-up and get her shots. I am hoping that this will be a much calmer week!

  6. Definitely nice to have your workspace set up but that is annoying about the commute. Some longer commutes aren’t bad because you can listen to audio books but road construction is such a pain and then throw in the extra gas used and it definitely sounds frustrating. I hope you’re having a good week!
