My Life

Is it time for a break yet? I could really use one right about now. Last Sunday, we hosted Thanksgiving for my husband’s family. Our garage party seemed to work out well, although I am not sure that everyone was a fan of my dogs being in the middle of everything. What can I say – they are spoiled and wanted to come to Thanksgiving too! At the end of the meal, my daughter drove back to college and my husband and I went back to our regular routines.

Yesterday, my sister and her family were in town for a Christmas celebration. We decided to pick up food for the event so I grabbed some pulled pork along with several sides from the local BBQ joint. It was nice to take a break from cooking and the food seemed to go over well. My mom had all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren there with the exception of my youngest daughter who couldn’t come home from college again so soon. Someone decided that we needed to take some photos so I thought I would share one of my mom, my sisters, and me. Of course, I am the dork on the right who can’t be serious if there is a camera around.

How was your week?

What I’m Reading

I was back to work this week so I had more time for audiobooks. I finished The Operator by Kim Harrison on Monday and really enjoyed it. Child of Mine by Karen Grey was a wonderful work week distraction. Hurricane Summer by Asha Bromfield was a very emotional story that I plan to review next week.

I am still reading The Sea King by C.L. Wilson and have made it to 15%. I don’t dislike the book but it hasn’t grabbed me yet so I really don’t feel all that compelled to read. I decided to go ahead and listen to The Poison Artist by Jonathan Moore. I am at the 65% mark and should finish early next week.

  1. Glad the Thanksgiving in the garage went well! And yay for more family time with the BBQ! It’s hard getting pictures with my family as we all seem to be too critical of ourselves and hate every picture that turns out! Lol.

Nice new read! That’s a new to me one but I hope you enjoy it once you read it!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

  2. Glad your fun large group location idea went well and fun pic of you with your mom and sisters. We had a large group gathering with the younger group in the basement and the older crowd upstairs. Looks like you got through a good pile of books this week. I’ll be interested to see what you thought of Hurricane Summer.

    Have a great week, Carole

  3. Fun picture. There’s quite a resemblance between you and the person to your left (sister?) My sister and I don’t even look related (for that matter, neither does my daughter). Sounds like fun was had by all at your celebrations

    • I have heard that I look like my younger sister but we also always were told that she looks like our dad while I look like my mom. Maybe they looked alike? My two daughters look nothing like each other but the younger one does favor me.

    • It was nice to see everyone. It is hard to believe that one of my Christmas celebrations is already in the books.

  4. I always think twice about having my dogs out when we have a party, but this is their home too haha. That being said, we are going to have the puppy kenneled in our bedroom when we host our Christmas party tonight. He still just gets a little too excited when there are a bunch of people around. Hope you have a great week!

    • Yeah, this is their house and I knew that they would bark if I tried to lock them up. They like to follow me around and there was food so I should have expected that they would be in the middle of everything.

  5. I am sorry to hear that you are struggling with The Sea King, have you read her other works? It is a more slow build type of story, hopefully you get into it soon.

    • I wouldn’t say that I am struggling. I just haven’t reached that point in the book where the story has completely grabbed me yet. The chapters are very long so I am less likely to pick it up when I don’t have a lot of time which may also be slowing down my reading.

    • That is my general philosophy. My family are dog people and love having my dogs around. My husband’s family are cat people so they are not used to having dogs around.

  6. Sounds like a great time with family and you read some great book!

Have a great day and happy reading!

  7. Love the picture! I never quite know what to do with my hands in posed photos so I’ve had some strange poses over the years or end up with the hand on hip cheerleader pose. You at least look like you’re having fun! Barbecue sounds delicous and like a good alternative to all the cooking. Plus you can never go wrong with barbecue. Have a wonderful week!

  8. Aw, love the photo! Sounds like you had a good week and that’s awesome you could visit with so much family. And hey, dogs are family too – they are allowed at Thanksgiving. 😉

  9. I can relate to the need for a break, Carole. The last few weeks have been brutal. But glad you had a good Thanksgiving. And a fun gathering with your mom and sisters! Family time is always the best. 🙂
