My Life

What a week! The week started out pretty normal with work and a few things to do at home. I ended up putting up my Christmas tree last Sunday which is a big deal for me. I haven’t had a tree in quite a few years but I just decided to do it this year. I put it in my book room so I don’t have to worry about my dogs knocking it over. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary on Wednesday. It is hard to believe that we have been married for 22 years now.

On Thursday, our siding project started. I was at work that day so I missed most of that fun but it was weird coming home to a naked house. I was off on Friday for a doctor’s appointment and ended up being home most of the day while they were working on the house. It is amazing how hard it is to concentrate with constant banging. The weather started looking bad so they called it a day. The storms actually got really bad with tornados touching down in two places in the metro area. The storm cell got really close to our house so we headed to the basement which was a chore since my husband had to carry two of our dogs and they are not small. I was worried about my unsided house and all the construction equipment outside but everything was fine. My heart goes out to everyone who didn’t fare as well and the lives that were lost in several states Friday night.

My house as it looks now. The stone along the front is done and siding is almost done in the back. They say that it should be complete sometime today.

Today my husband and I are getting our Covid Booster shot. I am crossing my fingers that neither of us feels sick. I am hoping for a much quieter week next week.

How was your week?

What I’m Reading

I only finished two books this week. Not great but it was a busy week. I finished The Poison Artist by Jonathan Moore last Sunday and posted my review on Friday. I then put all of my focus on The Sea King by C.L. Wilson. I read most of the book on my Kindle but grabbed a copy of the audiobook from my library so I could listen while I was at work.

I am listening to Side Jobs by Jim Butcher. This is the first time that I have read this book but I am pretty sure that I have read some of the stories in other collections. I am almost halfway done with The Untold Story by Genevieve Cogman. I have so much love for this series and this installment has been great so far!

Books Added

The Deepest of Secrets by Kelley Armstrong (NetGalley)

Book of the Month

The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox; A Flicker in the Dark by Stacy Willingham; A History of Wild Places by Shea Ernshaw; The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah

  1. Congratulations to you and your husband on 22 years! Cheers to many more. Your tree is lovely! Glad you have a safe space for it this year. Good luck with the boosters and the siding. Those storms were tragic. I was crying reading the articles.

    • Thanks so much, Sam! I am feeling fine so far after my booster and they just finished the siding so things are looking good!

  2. So happy to hear you are safe from the storms. The devastation is unimaginable. Look your tree right there in your reading area. Happy anniversary! My 22nd anniversary was this year, too. Good luck with your booster. I had zero side effects from mine.

    • I remember thinking that we got married around the same time when you said something about your anniversary. It looks like I am going to be free of side effect on the booster as well.

  3. Glad to hear you were safe during the storm too! I was not expecting that in December, I usually consider that one of my safe months, so yeah that wasn’t a fun night. But thankfully we were all okay too. I just got my Covid booster this week as well, and I can say other than occasional moments of a sort of dizziness and temporary nausea and chills here and there, I was okay and the second shot hit me really hard to the point of my staying in bed most of that day. So fingers crossed you’ll both be one of the lucky ones!

Nice new reads! I can’t wait for Kelley’s new book! I must have missed that one so I’m likely going to request it myself now too! Lol! Happy Reading!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

    • I remember maybe 10 years ago we had a tornado in the area on New Year’s Eve so it’s not unheard of. I am doing great with the booster shot so far so that is good. I was kind of worried about it.

      • I remember the news mentioning that year too for New Year’s Eve. I guess I blocked that horror out. I don’t like remembering them. That’s good about your booster! My arm has finally stopped hurting every time I move it too, so yay! Lol.

  4. So many good things to celebrate this week with your anniversary and your safety. 🙂 I’m sure your house will look fab when you get the new siding, but yes the earlier moments do make one wonder if their house will ever look right. 🙂 I got the new Rockton book, too.

    Have a great week, Carole!

    • They just finished the siding and it does look really good. I was kind of worried about having a naked house and no gutters with all the storms but I guess it worked out.

  5. Happy Anniversary, 22 years is fabulous! I saw your tree on IG and loved it, the lighting makes it looks so cozy. I was suppose to get my booster on the 3rd but wasn’t able. I tested positive for Covid, I’m thankful my symptoms are not as severe as others that must be hospitalized. Hopefully your house will be all put back together soon 🙂

    • Thanks, Jovita! I hope that you are feeling better! I hope that I will be able to avoid Covid but it seems like even vaccinated people are getting it but to a lesser degree.

    • Trying to get the dogs to the basement was the fun part. Only one of our dogs will go down there on her own. My husband carried the other two.

  6. Wow you just keep improving your home. I hope you will be there enjoying it for awhile. Happy Anniversary! I’m glad the storms missed you. The Untold Story is my next book to read. I’m excited for the Kelley Armstrong too. I hope you get the quieter week you want.

    • The plan is to live here for the rest of our lives so we are making the changes we want so that we can enjoy them. My subdivision was hit by a tornado about 10 years ago so I know it can happen and it looked bad for a bit.

  7. Love the Instagram picture! What a cozy reading spot! We have got to put up our tree this week but I’m having a hard time motivating myself. Happy anniversary! So glad you didn’t have tornado damage. Our area gets hit periodically and it’s so terrifying. Hopefully your siding is done now. We were home one time when the roof was being replaced and it was not fun! Hope you’re having a great week!

  8. DEBBIE HAUPT

Carole yes we had to hunker down too but luckily all is well. Thanks for sharing the pics your house is going to look really good!

  9. Happy Anniversary! I hope your booster went well. I was pretty run down and tired for a couple days, but nothing too terrible!

Love your tree. So cute and cozy.
