My Life

This wasn’t a bad week. I took Monday off work. Having an extra day off gave me some extra time to read which was wonderful. One Wednesday, I learned that my co-worker’s wife has Covid. He had of course been at work on Tuesday with me and even came in for just a little bit after learning his wife was positive (which I was not happy about). So now I am worried that every little thing could be the first symptom of Covid. Can we just be done with this pandemic already?

The only thing I wanted to do this week was read. I guess that is an okay problem for a book blogger to have. I had planned to work on comments a couple of nights but ended up sticking my nose in a book instead. I was super excited this week to move my NetGalley ratio up by a percentage point. I have to read 6 or 7 books without downloading any to get any movement these days. Hopefully, I can get it to keep going up this year.

It has been really cold this week which made leaving the house somewhat miserable. There were a few of our daily dog walks that were almost painful. I know that it could be a lot colder but I am a wimp when it comes to cold weather. Is it spring yet?

How was your week?

What I’m Reading

I was able to finish 5 books this week! I started the week out reading Such a Pretty Smile by Kristi DeMeester which I liked but didn’t love. I listened to The Vault of Dreamers by Caragh M. O’Brien enjoyed much of it but wasn’t thrilled by the ending. I absolutely loved The Deal by Elle Kennedy and can’t believe that I waited so long to pick it up. I then picked up the audiobook for an older review book that has been lingering on my shelves for years, Do or Die by Suzanne Brockmann. I had the house to myself yesterday so I sat down and read the upcoming book in the Kelley Armstrong’s Rockton series, The Deepest of Secrets.

I have just started listening to Lethal Lies by Rebecca Zanetti. I am looking forward to finally continuing with this series and I will be able to cross another older review book from my list which is a big plus.

Books Added

Hunt the Stars by Jessie Mihalik (NetGalley)

Anthem by Noah Hawley (Won from Ethan @ A Book A Week)

Favorite Instagram Post of the Week

What books do you add to your shelves this week?

  1. OMG I can’t believe your coworker came into this office knowing his wife have Covid! What the heck was he thinking? There’s just one more reason why it continues to spread. People can’t be counted on to be responsible and do the right thing to protect others. Okay, off my soapbox now… LOL I loved The Deal when I read it years (and years) ago but for some reason never continued the series. I think I was no longer interested in reading about college age characters. Their experiences just aren’t relatable any more.

    • Well, to be fair to my co-worker it was the company owner who wanted him to come in and finish something. I wasn’t happy about it. My sister was told to come into work as long as she tested negative when my brother-in-law had it since she has been vaccinated. I seem to enjoy reading about characters from any age group although when I am reading about college-age characters, I have to keep telling myself that my daughter is not doing any of the things in the book…lol.

  2. Why would he come into work if he knew his wife was positive? That’s just stupid. I mean, I get if he maybe needed to get his laptop, but then I guess you try to make it a quick “visit.” The time I was told our house guests tested positive for Covid, I told the office manager the situation, packed up my stuff and headed out to work from home for two weeks (since that was the quarantine time back then!). But yeah, I am so tired of this way of life too.

Nice new reads! I read Hunt the Stars earlier this month and really liked it! Can’t wait to read more of this series and I really need to go back and read some of Jessie’s back titles that I have in my TBR!

Hope you enjoy your week ahead!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

  3. I feel you with trying to move the NG ratio. I have to read 8 without any additional requests to move. That’s why I have been stuck at 92%, but I feel like there’s no shame with that ratio. I give you a lot of credit with those dog walks. It’s brutal out there. With WFH, I only go out like one day a week. I am a total wimp. Every cold symptoms I experience has me worrying about Covid. I feel your pain. Glad to hear you got a lot of reading done this week.

  4. I’d be mad at the coworker – did they even mask?

I loved The Deal and Do or Die. I’m hoping to get to the Deepest of Secrets this week. So you had an awesome reading week!

Lulu doesn’t like to go out in the snow but she does love to walk so she went. Today was better with the sidewalks melted and mostly dry, sunny and 40s.

  5. Argh! I would be upset with the coworker for coming in after finding out his wife as positive too. I hope you remain virus free. I know the feeling of worrying over every little symptom though–as someone with allergies, it’s almost nonstop. I am glad you have been reading a lot lately. Your new books look good! Have a great week, Carole!

  6. I can imagine what a scary situation it would be to learn that your coworker was exposed. I am heading back to college tomorrow and nervous about the COVID cases I’ve been hearing about in the area. Glad to hear that you are okay, though.

I’m interested to hear what you think about Anthem — I’ve been seeing it all over lately! Also your Netgalley ratio/amount of books read is so impressive!

  7. I always love the feeling of seeing your Netgalley ratio go up!! I hope you can get it higher. I just got mine to 100% and its the best feeling in the world, that feeling of accomplishment.

Yeah I hate this covid stuff haha like is everything a symptom? being sick is just the worst no matter if its covid or not.

Hope you have a wonderful reading week!

  8. I’ve been trying to knock out my Netgalley review books too. I managed to get an old one out last week and I’m working on another old one this week. My ratio is really good at 97%, but for some reason I’ve been getting more rejects than I have in the past. I think it’s because I had like 30 on my shelf. I’m now down to 22 books and 1 audiobook. Looks like you’re making good progress.

Yep, it’s tough to get outside when it’s so cold. It’s also tough when you get home and it’s dark. Thankfully the days are gradually getting longer. So many people are testing positive with Covid! My hospital has been crazy! Most of the hospitalized are unvaccinated. I understand people wanting it to be their choice to get vaccinated or not, I just wish the unvaccinated would be more careful, because their choice makes my (and my co-worker’s) job harder.

  9. Glad you enjoyed your day off and hope you stay healthy. Wishing your coworker’s wife feels better soon. Wow, you’re really doing great with the NetGalley percentage coming up b/c I remember where you were at last year. I’m hoping to start the Kelley Armstrong this week.

    Have a good week, Carole!

  10. I am so done with Covid and especially with people doing things like coming into work after knowing that someone they actually live with has tested positive. I will say my brother-in-law got it back in 2020 and his wife still hasn’t gotten it so hopefully you haven’t had direct exposure. I’m really curious about the Noah Hawley book. I enjoyed Before the Fall but I wasn’t sure if it was an author I’d really want to continue with. I hope you’re having a wonderful week!
