My Life

Can I just say that I am tired? Between the time change and having my daughter home for the week, I have been dragging. The time change is just rude. I woke up a little later than I usually do so I didn’t have as much time in the morning to read and work on my computer. It was nice having my daughter home. She was busy a lot of the time she was here but we did get to spend some time with her. I did a lot of laundry over the last 7 days and I thought that my washing machine was about to stage a revolt at one point. She is now back at school and fully stocked with clean clothes.

I love corned beef and cabbage so I try to make it for St. Patrick’s day. I invited my mom over to join us this year. I did a lot of cooking this week since my daughter was home and wanted to have some of the things that I make. Since she has to eat gluten-free, she doesn’t get a lot of the things that she likes when she is away at school. It is weird to think that this time next year, she will be student teaching.

How was your week?

What I’m Reading

I finished 3 books and a short story this week. I finished The Other Half of the Grave by Jeaniene Frost and loved getting a chance to be in Bones’s head for a bit. I listened to Black Magic Sanction by Kim Harrison and am looking forward to reading more of the series soon. I didn’t feel like starting a long audiobook on my drive home from work one day so I turned on Epic by Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy and enjoyed seeing this pair together again. I then decided to dig deep in my “Why did I download this from NetGalley in the first place file?” and borrowed a copy of the audiobook of Congratulations on Everything by Nathan Whitlock. It was not a favorite but it wasn’t bad and I am glad to finally cross it off my tbr.

I am still reading A Blight of Blackwings by Kevin Hearne. It is good but slow going. There are a lot of characters to keep track of and try to remember and I just didn’t get a lot of time to sit down and read this week. I have almost hit the 40% mark in the book and hope to finish this week. I did have time for audiobooks and am currently listening to Owl and the Electric Samurai by Kristi Charish. I have listened to about a third of the book and am enjoying it even though I had to adjust to some of the voices used since I read the first two books on my Kindle and imagined something very different.

Books Added

Love in the Time of Serial Killers by Alicia Thompson (NetGalley)

What books do you add to your shelves this week?

  1. Why is it that our kids always visit to do laundry? My daughter brought a second suitcase of dirty clothing from Chicago as if she has no access to a washer at her home. It baffled me. The time change is rude. Let’s hope the Sunshine Bill makes it through the House. I am tired of the time change.

    • Well, I do encourage her to bring her laundry. Each load is $3 at her college which is crazy-expensive. I don’t mind laundry so much as compared to other chores. The time change just doesn’t make sense in our current society. It makes me crabby these days.

  2. I know I still feel like I’m dragging because of DST. I didn’t sleep at all Friday night, I got a few hours last night but am still pretty wiped. My niece has been inviting herself over for sleepovers and for some reason I cannot get a wink of sleep when she’s here. Like literally not a wink!

Nice new read! That’s a new to me one but I hope you enjoy it once you get to read it!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

    Old Follower 🙂

    • Oh no! That’s horrible! Are you a really light sleeper? I hope that you have a much more rest week ahead.

  3. Yeah I hate switching with Daylight Savings Time, its just a pain to have to adjust and yes I think all of us feel how losing sleep really affects one even if you go to bed earlier, you still feel it. I hope this week is better for you.

    • I like Daylight Savings Time but they just need to leave it here. The switching back and forth is for the birds!

  4. You’re still reading the great books! I alternate between feeling tired and like I am a total sloth and feeling energized and trying to tackle multiple projects. The nice weather gives me a bit of an energy boost. Most of that is going into cooking for me too and I’m trying lots of new recipes. I’m glad you had the time with your daughter.

Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post

    • The nice weather does help! I haven’t tried many new recipes lately. I just made a few of my daughter’s favorites like chocolate donuts, chocolate chip bread, and she always wants pasta.

  5. Sounds like you had a nice visit with your daughter, laundry aside, lol! It’s nice to have a mom to help out like that. I have few on my Netgalley shelf like that too. I just need to get them over with and move on!

    • I don’t really mind laundry but I was worried that my washing machine was failing for a bit. It seems to be working fine now so maybe it was just tired..lol.

  6. I had to laugh about the laundry and favorite foods. Sounded oh too familiar. 🙂 You’re a great mom and hopefully can catch up on your rest this week.
Woohoo to dig one off the dusty shelves and get it read/listened to along with a couple other good ones.

    Have a good week, Carole!

    • I did so much laundry! That girl has a lot of clothes. I don’t mind doing laundry though and it saves a lot of money since it is $3 a load at her school. It does feel really good to cross these old review books of the tbr list.

    • I loved the Frost book! So good! It wasn’t cheap but it covered several meals and it is only once per year.

  7. The corned beef and cabbage sounds delicious! I have to wait for mine until I can eat solid food, since I just had oral surgery. Sigh.

Enjoy those books, which all look good!

    • I can do the audio after starting a series by reading but there is an adjustment time. It is much easier to go the other way since, like you, I hear the narrator while reading.

  8. I’m a big fan of falling backwards but this whole springing forward thing is just nonsense. I’m not a fan and feel like I’ve lost all connection with time. I’m glad you had a nice visit with your daughter and I know she loved having her favorite food and getting laundry done without having to deal with group laundry facilities. I hope you have a wonderful week!

  9. Did you see that the US Senate passed, unanimously, to make Daylight Savings Time permanent. It still has to go to the House and the president, but I have my fingers crossed. I would love to get rid of this twice a year clock change.

    • It would be nice to be done with the time change. It’s funny that this is the only thing Senators seem to agree on.
