A young woman in need of a transformation finds herself in touch with the animal inside in this gripping, incisive novel from the author of Cackle and The Return.
Rory Morris isn’t thrilled to be moving back to her hometown, even if it is temporary. There are bad memories there. But her twin sister, Scarlett, is pregnant, estranged from the baby’s father, and needs support, so Rory returns to the place she thought she’d put in her rearview. After a night out at a bar where she runs into Ian, an old almost-flame, she hits a large animal with her car. And when she gets out to investigate, she’s attacked.
Rory survives, miraculously, but life begins to look and feel different. She’s unnaturally strong, with an aversion to silver—and suddenly the moon has her in its thrall. She’s changing into someone else—something else, maybe even a monster. But does that mean she’s putting those close to her in danger? Or is embracing the wildness inside of her the key to acceptance?
This darkly comedic love story is a brilliantly layered portrait of trauma, rage, and vulnerability.
Imagine this: You are attacked by a werewolf-like creature on a dark road one night and feel like you might be changing. What would you do? This is precisely the situation that Rory is faced with in this entertaining book and I have to say that I would have made many of the same decisions that she did. On top of the physical changes, Rory is also dealing with quite a few other things. It is really a wonder that she remained sane through it all. I am so glad that I gave this book a try.
I was hooked by this book right away and it held my interest until the very end. I have read a lot of werewolf stories but I really liked the fact that this one was different. The sense of humor woven through the story was a very welcome addition to the story. I really liked Rory and could relate to her as she dealt with a loss of control. The romance in the story was well done and I also appreciated the relationship between Rory and her twin sister.
I would recommend this book to others. This was an incredibly entertaining story filled with great characters, plenty of action, a bit of romance, and some humor. I found this book to be next to impossible to set aside once I started reading and I cannot wait to read more of this talented author’s work.

I hope that you get the chance to read it, Lark!
It doesn’t sound as scary as I was imagining from the cover. I like that there is humor and you could relate to the heroine. I’ll add it to my list.
I have a very high tolerance but I didn’t find it scary at all.
This sounds like my type of book.
I think that you would like it, Nadene!
What a lovely review you have of this one here. I have really enjoyed paranormal books and I do love those books that are super engaging all the way through. Those end up being the best reads!

This isn’t really my genre but this sounds like such an interesting premise.
