Lieutenant Eve Dallas tails a serial killer who has a passion for the "Twelve Days of Christmas" in this novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling In Death series.
No one likes to be alone during the holidays. For New York's most posh dating service, Personally Yours, it is the season to bring lonely hearts together. But Lieutenant Eve Dallas, on the trail of a ritualistic serial killer who likes to dress up as Santa Claus, has made a disturbing discovery: all of the victims have been traced to Personally Yours. As the murders continue, Eve enters into an elite world of people searching for their one true love. A world where the power of love leads men and women into the ultimate act of betrayal...
This was very good! I have grown to love the key characters in this series over the past few months as I have been working my way through these audiobooks. Eve and Roarke are perfect together and I love the fact that we get to see their relationship evolve from one book to the next. While this book could be read as a stand-alone, I recommend reading the series in order if possible.
Eve is working on a new case involving sexual homicides and it appears that the murderer is referencing the 12 days of Christmas. This is a hard case for Eve who is still dealing with the impact from her previous case. This mystery was intense and kept me guessing until the very end. I was apprehensive about how things would work out before this story drew to a close. I listened to the audiobook and thought Susan Ericksen did a great job with this installment. I love how consistent her voices for the characters have been throughout the series and would definitely recommend going with the audiobook if you choose to pick up this book.

In a future where human nature remains as predictable as death, a killer plays God and puts innocent lives in the palm of his hand in this novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling In Death series.
With the precision of a surgeon, a serial killer preys on the most vulnerable souls of the world’s city streets. The first victim: a sidewalk sleeper, found dead in New York City. No bruises, no signs of struggle. Just a laser-perfect, fist-sized hole where his heart had once been. Lieutenant Eve Dallas is assigned to investigate. But in the heat of a cat-and-mouse game with the killer, Dallas’s job is suddenly on the line. Now her hands are tied...between a struggle for justice—and a fight for her career...
This was fantastic! Eve has to deal with a lot of obstacles in this installment. Roarke is the perfect match for Eve and always seems to know exactly what she needs. He is also pretty handy when it comes to helping with the case. I really like Eve but Roarke tends to steal the show for me. I love them as a couple and it was a joy to see them work so well together.
Eve’s new case involves a sidewalk sleeper who happens to be missing his heart. This was a puzzling mystery that only got more complicated as more victims were found. The story kept me guessing until the very end. I listened to the audiobook and thought Susan Ericksen did a great job with the story once again. She has really become the voice of Eve, Roarke, Peabody, and the rest of the characters and I couldn’t imagine experiencing this story in any other way.

In this novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series known for its tantalizing blend of romance, suspense, and futuristic police procedural, New York cop Eve Dallas faces her most ingenious foe: a “secret admirer” who taunts her with letters…and kills without mercy.
An unknown bomber is stalking New York City. He is sending Eve Dallas taunting letters promising to wreak mass terror and destruction among the “corrupt masses.” And when his cruel web of deceit and destruction threatens those she cares for most, Eve fights back. It’s her city...it’s her job...and it’s hitting too close to home. Now, in a race against a ticking clock, Eve must make the pieces fit—before the city falls.
I had a great time with this installment! As I have been slowly working my way through this series, I have come to look forward to my monthly dose of Eve and Roarke. Roarke has to be one of the most patient characters around. He loves Eve and isn’t afraid to tell her even when it isn’t what she wants to hear. I really liked seeing them work together in some intense situations.
The city is under attack by a bomber that seems to be targeting Eve. All of the properties have ties to Roarke so he is involved as well. There were some pretty tricky situations and I was worried about the safety of these characters. There were some romantic developments involving Peabody that I am very excited about. Susan Ericksen does a fabulous job with this series and excels at bringing this group of characters to life. I cannot wait to read more of this entertaining series.
Glad to see you are enjoying the series.
I’ve not read her as JD ROBB but I’ve been meaning to check out this series. Great reviews, Carole!
Simply Angela
These books are a blast. This ia great reminder that I need to get back to these. I adore Roarke so much. The only complaint I have is that I wish the romance was a bit more focused. Susan Ericksen does a fabulous job though narrating these.
Great reviews Carole! Hope you have a great weekend darling.
I love these all so much. Every book is a gift.
I read the first four (?) of this series but haven’t picked it back up again. I agree the narrator is quite good! Nice to hear you’re enjoying it!
Glad you enjoyed the series. Will check it out. Some narrators do such an exceptional job the make the book even better.
I have listened to the first two audiobooks in this series and my unofficial goal is to eventually read the entire series. Not sure how practical that is given how long it takes me to get through audiobooks.
