A man presumed dead is suddenly wanted for murder in this thriller of secrets, lies, and dangerous conspiracies that threaten to cover up the truth.
Three years ago, sports agent Myron Bolitar gave a eulogy at the funeral of his client, renowned basketball coach Greg Downing. Myron and Greg had history: initially as deeply personal rivals, and later as unexpected business associates. Myron made peace and moved on – until now, when twofederal agents walked into his office, demanding to know where Greg Downing is.According to the agents, Greg is still alive—and has been placed at the scene of a double homicide, making him their main suspect. Shocked, Myron needs answers.
Myron and Win, longtime friends and colleagues, set out to find the truth, but the more they discover about Greg, the more dangerous their world becomes. Secrets, lies, and a murderous conspiracy that stretches back into the past churn at the heart of Harlan Coben's blistering new novel.
I loved this book! It is no secret that I have been a huge fan of Harlan Coben’s writing for a very long time. I have a bit of a soft spot for Myron Bolitar, Win, and the rest of the regular characters in this series so I was thrilled to get my hands on this book. It’s been a few years since the last Myron Bolitar book but I was able to slip right back into this world without missing a beat. I was completely entertained from beginning to end.
One thing that I love about Harlan Coben’s books is that after I think I have things figured out, he throws another twist at me which leaves me questioning everything and this book was no exception. When Myron is questioned about a former client, Greg Downing, he has no idea what is going on since he believes that Greg is dead. Myron and Win have their hands full trying to figure out what is really going on and how Greg Downing may be connected to some more recent murders. This story kept me on my toes and left me questioning everything. We also get the chance to see how things have developed in these characters personal lives, which added a nice layer to the characters.
I listened to the audiobook and thought that Steven Weber did a great job with the narration. This is the first time that I have listened to a book in this series and I thought that he expertly brought this colorful cast of characters to life. He was able to add just the right amount of excitement to his reading which only added to my enjoyment. I didn’t want to put this book down and ended up listening for hours at a time.
I would recommend this book to others. This story could be read as a stand alone since the mystery is contained in this novel but readers of the series will appreciate getting the chance to catch up with this group of characters. I cannot wait to read more of this author’s work!
I received a review copy of this book from Grand Central Publishing.
Glad to hear this one was so good. I have Coben’s book The Match on my summer reading list. Have you read that one?
I love when I can slide effortlessly back into a series even when it’s been a while. Glad this was such a hit for you!
I really enjoyed this one, felt like old home week with the characters returning, some we haven’t seen in a while.
I own several books by Harlan Coben and really want to read them. If I dont’ get to any this year I think I’ll put him on my Must Read Authors list for next year. At this point it’s getting ridiculous!
I have never actually tried Coben
