Weekly Wrap Up #419

I am really excited to participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Reading Reality.

My Life

My original plan for this past week was to dive back into the blog. It didn’t take me long to figure out that I really needed to take a complete break and regroup. I think I summed it up well when I told a co-worker that my soul is tired. I fell asleep on the couch after work one night and just tried to get some much-needed rest during the week as I could.

I did attend the author event at my local library for Meg Gardiner. I got to the front of the signing line and headed home as soon as possible. It was fun to hear her talk about her inspiration for the books in the Unsub series. I have a new photo to add to my “awkward photos with authors” collection.

Friday was a busy day. I had an in-person interview for one position at the library. I think it went well but there is a lot of competition. They plan to take a couple of weeks to make any decisions so the process is slow. It will happen if it is meant to be. I left work a little early to accompany my mom as she said her final goodbyes to her dog, Daisy. Daisy was such a good girl and has been a wonderful companion to my mom for the past 14 years. I hated to say goodbye.

I have another in-person interview scheduled for Monday at a different library branch. I am really hoping that one of these positions works out. I would love to transition to working at the library full-time after my daughter ages off my health insurance.

How was your week?

What I’m Reading

I was able to finish 2 audiobooks this week, which is much better than what I accomplished last week. Shadowheart by Meg Gardiner kept me guessing until the very end. I decided to grab the audiobook of Finding Mr. Write by Kelley Armstrong once the book was released on Tuesday and really enjoyed listening to the story. I am amazed by the fact that Kelley Armstrong can write any genre exceptionally well.

I am leaving This Ordinary Stardust by Alan Townsend on this list because I do plan to get back to it soon. There are a few authors that I will drop everything to read and Sarah Lyons Fleming is at the top of the list. I ran to download her new book, World Undone, as soon as it became available on Tuesday and started reading right away. I am moving slower than usual so I have only read about a third of the book but I am loving it. I started listening to Love Letters to a Serial Killer by Tasha Cortell on Thursday and am enjoying it.

Books Added

World Undone by Sarah Lyons Fleming (Purchased); Grave Danger by James Grippando (Publisher); Memorials by Richard Chizmar (Publisher)

  1. Keeping my fingers crossed for you for the interview! I remember trying to apply for library positions as well when I was looking for work, but never made it out of the slush pile. But Definitely keeping my fingers crossed for you! Yeah, my sleep schedule was all off this past week since we had family visiting. It was nice, but I am glad this week is going back to normal! Lol.

Nice new reads! These are totally new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all!

    Here’s my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

  2. When you’re feeling soul tired you definitely need to take time for yourself. Self-care is so important these days. And I really hope you get one of those library jobs! Sending prayers your way. (And I read my first Sarah Lyons Fleming book two weeks ago: Until the End of the World. And I loved it! I just checked out And After and can’t wait to read that one this month.)

  3. I am so glad you got some rest. I also enjoyed Finding Mr. Write and am a big fan of Kelley Armstrong.. Will the library jobs be closer to home (less commuting)? Did you get the software all converted at your long-time job? Good luck!

  4. Wow, 14 years. That’s a gift, but my heart aches for your mother. I am sending wishes to the book gods that the library picks you. It would be amazing, and if you could turn it into a full time job — even better! I thought Mr. Write was fun. I have not read any other books by Armstrong, but I would read more contemporaries for sure.

  5. Yeah, sometimes you just need to do a stepback and relax. That would be great if you can get one of those library jobs. Neat you got to meet a favorite author.

    Have a good week, Carole!

  6. I think the expression that your soul is tired is a good description. I’m glad you’re taking time to rest and regroup and hope you are feeling better. I’m so sorry to hear about your mom’s dog. That’s so tough.
