#1 New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong delivers a fun romantic comedy about a woman writing under a male pseudonym and the man she hires to play the role in public.

Daphne McFadden already knows that as a female author, the cards are stacked against her. Now she knows just how much. Because her sudden whim to pose as an “outdoorsy hunk of masculinity” male author for her new book just resulted in the unthinkable: a bidding war, a huge book deal, and the kind of fame every author dreams of. Now she’s in big trouble. Because she needs to convince the world that Zane Remington actually exists . . . but how?

By hiring an actor, of course.

Only Chris Stanton is not an actor—not officially. He’s used to balancing the books, not pretending he wrote one. Still, he’s mostly certain he can pose as some overly macho bro-author. But when the media descend on Daphne’s gorgeous remote home in the Yukon, it’s not enough for Chris to just be the face of Zane Remington—he’ll have to become him. All while hilariously balancing the terrifying dangers of the wilderness, a massive femme fandom, and a serious crush on Daphne. But as the hype circus gets more out of control, it’s just a matter of time before someone discovers their little write lie . . .

This was great! Kelley Armstrong has become one of my favorite authors and I have been super impressed that she writes so many different genres so well. There has been some romance in some of her other books but I was thrilled to have the chance to read her first contemporary romance. I had rather high expectations for this book and am pleased to report that they were all met. I fell hard for both of these characters and couldn’t wait to see them find their happily ever after together.

Daphne is an author. She has had some trouble getting anyone to pay attention to her novel and submits it under a man’s name out of frustration. She sells the book but now needs someone to be the face of the author, Zane Remington. Chris is an accountant, not an actor, but he needs help from Daphne’s lawyer friend so he decides to pose as Zane Remington. It seems simple until the book becomes a runaway success and he is in the spotlight more than expected.

I liked Daphne and Chris together. I found both characters to be relatable and very likable. They seemed to be perfectly matched, at least anytime Chris was himself and wasn’t acting like Zane. I thought that they had great chemistry and couldn’t wait to see them figure things out. They find themselves in some pretty outrageous situations and seem to make a great pair when adversity strikes. I loved the thread of humor woven throughout the story.

I listened to the audiobook and thought that all four narrators did a fantastic job with this story. I thought that their voices complimented one other’s nicely and I thought that the use of multiple narrators added to my overall enjoyment of the story. Each of the narrators added just the right amount of emotion to their reading to fully bring the characters to life. I found this to be a very pleasant listening experience.

I would recommend this book to others. I found this to be a delightful romance filled with wonderful characters and just the right amount of humor. I hope Armstrong tackles more romances in the future but at this point I will read anything that this talented author decides to write.

I received a review copy of this book from Forever.

  1. I’ve read one book by Kelley Armstrong and absolutely loved it. I’m looking forward to reading more of her suspense/mystery books and now it looks like I need to add in this one too!
