Stacking the Shelves #120

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life

I have had one heck of a week.  On Monday, a neighbor’s tree fell on the power lines leading to my house pulling the lines away from the house and doing a bit of damage including a small fire.  We were not home at the time so we are very thankful for a quick thinking neighbor who called 911 right away, preventing further damage.  I was without power from Monday night until Saturday morning.  It almost seems strange to have lights working in my house after going without for most of the week.  My daughter had finals all week and ended her school year on Thursday.

I did have some posts scheduled for the week so the blog continued as normal but I was not about to get around to visit blogs or interact a whole lot.  I am going to do my best to get around to everyone now that I have power again but please be patient.  I still have some damage that needs to be repaired to my house and I have a lot of groceries that need to be replaced.  I am just so thankful that nobody was hurt, my dogs were okay, and my home can be fixed.

Books Added This Week

Stray Magic by Kelly Meding (Edelweiss)
Face Off by Brenda Novak (NetGalley)

I didn’t request any books this week but had a couple of requests approved.  I am really looking forward to both of these books.

Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf (Publisher)

This package was a nice surprise this week.  The book looks pretty good so I am definitely going to try to work it into my reading schedule as soon as I can.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

  1. Sorry to hear of your power outage! I had a week of no power years ago during Super Storm Sandy, which hit the east coast and caused chaos. It was the worst experience. Glad no one was injured.

I'm a new Brenda Novak fan and have read just a few in past year from various series but enjoy her. Have a good week reading (with power).

    • I really didn't mind being without power too much. The weather was nice and it was pretty peaceful. I wouldn't want to go too much longer without power but it wasn't a huge problem. Plus…my kindle has a light so I was set.

I haven't read too many of Brenda Novak's books but have enjoyed the ones that I had read. I am looking forward to her upcoming book.

PS – I tried to find your blog, View From the Books, but your profile is private with no link. If you get the chance to stop by again, leave me your link and I will be happy to stop by your blog 🙂

  2. Oh wow, thank God for your neighbor indeed! Although that sucks about the power being out. Still, glad it ended somewhat positively and without bigger damage… Scary business! I'm glad you got surprise bookmail. Bookmail always makes things better 🙂

  3. Wow, a whole week without power! I would be losing my mind, mostly because I need AC. I can't handle our hot weather! Lol! Glad you've got the power back and everyone (puppies included) was okay!

Nice new reads! I also got Kelly Meding's new book which I am super excited to read! I love her books, though I still need to read one of them that's been sitting on my kindle. Damn kindle books, I always forget about them! Lol! Seeing Sara Wolf's book a LOT lately! Hope you enjoy it once you read it, along with your other new reads too!

    Here's my STS

    Have a GREAT day!

    • It wasn't really very hot this week so I was fine. With the windows open, things were pretty comfortable at night and I spent some time sitting outside on the patio. I am really excited to get started with Stray Magic!

  4. Thank goodness no one was hurt! That's horrible that it took so long to restore power. I've been through times like that before, and I feel like you never fully realize how dependent you are on power until it's out. Yay for the Bring Me Your Hearts box! I got one last week, and it was such an awesome surprise. Have a great week, Carole! Hopefully everything goes back to normal soon 🙂

    • We have had to deal with power outages before so I guess I have had some practice. This one was a bit longer than what we have dealt with in the past but I was able to cook on my gas stove and my hot water heater worked so I managed. I was really surprised to have the box from Entangled Publishing show up this week! Bring Me Your Hearts looks like a good book.

  5. I don't know anything about the new Kelly Meding book but I hope to be trying it anyway at some point. Glad you have power back-and it's a good thing it didn't happen in the winter. Hope you have a better week!

  6. I was thinking of you a few times this week. Last year we only lost power for two days at the most and I learned how dependent I am. 🙂
Enjoy your new books. The Kelly Meding looks good.

    • This is the third time that we have lost power for a longer period of time, although this was the longest stretch yet. We have kind of figured out what to do when these things happen so it wasn't too bad. I did miss my dishwasher 🙂

Oh wow, that sounds awful. I hope you’re able to get everything fixed quickly. Enjoy the new books and the rest of your Sunday! 🙂

  8. I would not have survived that many days without power. It's been years, but I still shudder thinking about that week after Sandy where we sat in the cold and dark doing NOTHING! But, yes, the bright side is that no-one was harmed. One of my goals is to someday rate and get one of those cool boxes from a publisher. Enjoy!

  9. I like your Bring Me Their Hearts package, I love getting swag!! What a week for you, I hope everything and everyone is ok and you have a better week!!

  10. Glad you have power back! We went 2 weeks without after our area was hit by tornadoes and having lights again was amazing. I don't envy you having to replace all the groceries but so glad everyone is okay. Yay for school being out! We've got 4 more days and I'm counting down! Have a great week!

  11. I am glad you have your power back. What a week you had! I am so glad everyone is okay, including your dogs. Your new books all look so appetizing! Stray Magic looks especially appealing to me. I hope you enjoy them. I hope this week is a much better one for you, Carole!

  12. Oh no, thankfully the fire didn't turn into something more devastating. Glad to hear that everyone was okay and your power is restored.

Enjoy the books you added this week and have a great day.

  13. Like I said before, I'm so glad no one was hurt. Poor Booker T is so nervous around storms and noises that I don't know that he would ever get over something like that happening. I hope the lack of power didn't interfere with your daughter's studying too much. That couldn't have been easy. Hope you have a wonderful week – you deserve it!

  14. Wow, crazy week. Oh I am interested in the Kelly Meading book I'll have to go look at that. I haven't seen anything by her in awhile. I love Brenda Novak. As you can see I'm just getting around to see things on blogs a week later myself. Anne – Books of My Heart
