Stacking the Shelves #132

Posted August 18, 2018 by Carole in Stacking the Shelves / 28 Comments

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life
This was kind of a tough week for me.  A lot of good things happened but I really felt bad for a whole lot of it.  Last weekend I ended up with some kind of stomach bug.  You do not want a stomach bug 3 weeks after abdominal surgery.  Take my word for it.

My daughter had some big milestones this week.  She turned 18 and then 2 days later started her senior year of high school.  We had a family meal planned on Sunday for her birthday and I told her that she could invite some friends to Dave & Busters on her actual birthday Tuesday.  We had an open house to attend for the jazz program she participates in on Wednesday and  the first day of school on Thursday.  I am very happy that next week’s schedule is looking quite a bit lighter.

I am still behind on commenting.  I know that I sound like a broken record at this point but I do hope to get caught up with everyone.  I really appreciate all of the comments and blog visits from everyone.  My plans for this weekend are working on the blog and watching some Game of Thrones.

Books Added
Dear Evan Hansen by Val Emmich, Steven Levenson, Benj Pasek, Justin Paul (NetGalley)
Unbreak My Heart by Lauren Blakely (Inkslinger PR)
Diamond Fire by Ilona Andrews (Edelweiss)

I grabbed Dear Evan Hansen when it was listed as a Read Now on NetGalley for a short time.  It was really a complete impulse grab that I hope works in my favor.  I received a copy of Unbreak My Heart for the blog tour coming up next week.  I have already listened to this one and can tell you I really enjoyed it.  There may have been a few shouts of joy when I received the email telling me that I had been approved for Diamond Fire.  Everyone in the Midwest may have heard me.  I will probably be finding some time to read that one this weekend as well.

The Innocent by Harlan Coben
No Second Chance by Harlan Coben
Play Dead by Harlan Coben
Better Homes and Hauntings by Molly Harper
Duma Key by Stephen King
Salem’s Lot by Stephen King
A Desperate Fortune by Susanna Kearsley
Blackwater: The Complete Caskey Family Saga by Michael McDowell
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

This is what happens when Audible has a 2 for 1 sale including a lot of your favorite authors and you have the annual plan.  I still have a few credits left and may add a couple more books to my stockpile before the sale ends.  I have already read 4 of these books but thought a re-read via audio might be just the thing.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

  1. Oh no Carole, I hope you feel better soon, those stomach bugs are terrible. My sister and I enjoy reading Harlan Coben's books. Great selection of books & audiobooks, I hope you enjoy them all.

  2. Stomach bugs are bad at the best of times but so soon after your surgery is horrible. A nice Game of Thrones marathon and some book buys are the best therapy you can have right now!

  3. Ugh…stomach bugs are the worst! And to have one so soon after surgery? That's rough! I hope you have a speedy recovery!

Nice new reads! Some new to me ones here but I hope you enjoy them all!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

  4. Argh! Sorry to hear about that stomach bug. No, I will definitely take it on hearsay and not attempt the bug and a recent surgery. Hope you're feeling better.
Big week for your daughter and I'm sure she appreciates having such involved and fun parents.
Wowsers! Great haul and I love that you got Diamond Fire.
I caught an Audible sale recently and got two books.

    Have a great week, Carole!

Oh no! I hope you are feeling better now. It sounds like a great week for your daughter. Enjoy the new books. πŸ™‚

  6. I also have a daughter starting her senior year of high school this coming Monday! She is my youngest, so there are some tears for me. She is also nervous about starting the college application process. My whole job this year is to remain calm (ha!). I hope your stomach bug went away so you can savor all the milestones with your daughter. Have a great week.

  7. Oh man, that sucks about the stomach flu especially after your surgery! Hope you get better soon! You got some great reads and listens! πŸ™‚

  8. I am so sorry you haven't been feeling good, Carole. I am glad there were bright spots in the week for you though. Happy birthday to your daughter! And good luck to her in her senior year. Mouse finished her first week of 2nd grade this week, and it seems to go well. She doesn't hate school yet. LOL It does sound like it will be a busy one. I've already got her first fundraiser for both school and dance. I really hate fundraisers. I know they have their purposes though. I hope you feel better soon, Carole, and have a good week! I am hoping to get back into blogging more soon. We'll see how that works out. πŸ™‚

  9. A lot of celebrating and back to school in your household this week. It sounds pretty exciting and stressful at the same time. I like your selection of audiobooks. Enjoy!

  10. You poor dear! Stomach bugs are the worst, and I cannot imagine that discomfort on top of the discomfort due to your surgery. Wow! You cleaned up at that audible sale. Some great titles there. Enjoy!

  11. Diamond Fire!!!!!! I have not yet shopped the sale. It's the kind I like but I didn't see things I wanted which I don't have. I do love Harlan Coben. I hope you're feeling better and have a great week with all your new reads and less activities. Anne – Books of My Heart

  12. Oh sorry to hear about the stomach bug! And yes that sounds very unpleasant so close on the heels of abdominal surgery- yikes. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Hope your new reads are good! And enjoy Game of thrones. πŸ™‚

  13. Sure hope you are feeling better. I love the cover of Diamond Fire – purple! I loved Eleanor & Park and that looks like a sale you just couldn't resist. Happy belated birthday to your daughter and I hope she has a great senior year!

  14. Oh no on the stomach bug! They're miserable on they're own but I can't even imagine pairing it with surgery. I hope you're feeling much better. Happy birthday and happy first day of school to your daughter! That Audible sale was dangerous. I got hit bad with the last one so I tried to not even look at this one!

  15. I feel like I get a stomach bug once a week anymore. Seems like something is always going on. Happy Birthday and Back to School. I have a senior and an 8th grader now. OMG, where does the time go? Feel better.
