Stacking the Shelves #241

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life
This was another good week.  Things have been very quiet in the office and the owner decided that we wouldn’t need to come in on New Year’s Eve and could work from home that day.  That was a nice surprise!
We didn’t do anything special for New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day but enjoyed just hanging out around the house and enjoying the fact that we didn’t have any obligations.   We did have a bit of ice in the morning and some fat snowflakes later in the day and since we were able to stay home, I just admired how pretty it was.
How was your week?
What I’m Reading
I finished the audiobook of Once Burned by Jeaniene Frost early in the week.  This was a re-read but I have to admit that I remember almost none of the book but I still loved the story.  I also read To Whatever End by Lindsey Frydman and found it to be an enjoyable read.  I started listening to Roommate by Sarina Bowen almost the moment I got my hands on it and absolutely loved it.  I finished the week out by reading Open Heart by Gregory D. Williams and was pleasantly surprised by how much I ended up enjoying the story.

I actually haven’t read a lot since I finished the book I was reading on New Year’s Eve.  I am currently two chapters into You Have a Match by Emma Lord which seems promising so far.

  1. I am glad you didn't have to go into the office on New Year's Eve. That was nice of your boss. My husband ended up with the day off since his the offices closed early on the East Coast and his boss didn't think it would be worth it for him to have to wake up extra early to get in just a short amount of hours. He did have to make some of the hours ups by working extra hours earlier in the week. He says it was worth it to have the entire day off.

It sounds like you are reading some good books! I hope you enjoy your new ones. Have a Happy New Year, Carole, and enjoy your week!

    • We would have worked if there had been any business the rest of the week. Unfortunately, my work seems to either be busy or super slow. I am glad that your husband was able to get the day off. It makes a really nice break.

  2. Nice that you didn't have to go into the office on NYE. I ended up just taking the day off. So excited to see you enjoyed The Roommate! It's my most anticipated book this month. Can't wait to get my hands on it!

  3. Unlike you I had to go into the office on New Year's Eve., but it wasn't all bad. I live half hour drive away from my office, so I didn't have much traffic to contend with, which is one of the biggest obstacles during the holiday season.

    • I am glad that you didn't have a lot of traffic to deal with on New Year's Eve. I live just under 4 miles from my office so I don't usually have to deal with much traffic. Of course, I did have another car crash into me during that short drive a few years ago so you never know.

  4. That was nice of your boss to let you work from home. We kept hoping we would be let go early on NYE, since the stock market closed at 2pm, but no such luck. I guess we have been spoiled in previous years and just expected it. I didn't realize Roommate was a Shipley adjacent story. I love the True North world. I thought You Have a Match was cute. It didn't wow me the way Tweet Cute did, but it was fun and warm and enjoyable. The ending was great! Hope it works out for you.

    • I know that Roommate is being labeled a stand alone and it can definitely be read that way but it really felt like a part of the True North series. One of the main characters is a Shipley and Audrey, Zara, Griffin, and a lot of the other characters either make an appearance or play a larger role. It's so good!

  5. I've been working from home this week still too for my quarantining. Still feeling good, no symptoms so I think it's safe to say I'm out of the woods officially! Yeah the ice the other day was a sight to wake up to! Would've liked some snow on the ground to go with it, but oh well. Our New Years was quiet too. Even went to bed at 11! Lol. But neighbors woke me up at midnight with their celebrating.

Nice new reads! These are new to me ones. I hope you enjoy them all!

    Here's my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

  6. I think I'm going to try a Jeanine Frost book this year. I want to read more urban fantasy, so she's on my list, along with Nalini Singh, Patricia Briggs, and Yasmine Galenorn.

Hope you enjoy your new books!

    • I love Jeaniene Frost and Patricia Briggs! I still haven't had the chance to read Nalini Singh and Yasmine Galenorn they are on my list of authors to get to someday. Have you read Ilona Andrews? I highly recommend their books as well.

  7. Thick as Thieves is good! Very quintessential Sandra Brown. I haven't spent my gift cards from Christmas. I think I'm going to wait until the bookstores are open again. They're closed here. 🙁

    • I was so busy this summer that I somehow missed this book. I just had to have a copy for myself. Our bookstores are open and I have ventured in just a couple of times since the start of the pandemic.

    • That was a lovely surprise, being able to work from home! I haven't really done anything for New Year's in a loooooong time – since before Eleanor was born. Eleanor and I went to my mom's house for Christmas vacation after we received negative COVID tests. She and Eleanor were asleep long before midnight, and I was asleep not too long after. I much prefer these New Year's Eve 'celebrations' compared to the ones in my younger, wilder days. Happy New Year!

  8. This sounds like a great week to me! I'm glad you were able to enjoy some reads and relax a bit more. Happy New Year!

I always love, love, love your Instagram posts so much! Yay to grabbing that Sandra Brown novel. Such a great author. Kudos to your boss for giving you some unexpected time off, and I'm all in for some snow here in NC. Hugs and more hugs and Happy New Year to you and your family! RO

  10. I am so happy to see that you had a relaxing new years and got a nice surprise from your work. I think its amazing you had such a blast with Bowen's book, I have heard some great things about it, and want to pick it up soon.

  11. So glad you had a calm NYE and New Year's Day! What a nice surprise. I'm not a fan of ice or snow but if I don't have to go out in them they're not too bad. Hope you have a great week.

  12. I like the looks of your ice better than ours we had…lol. It's still cold and snowy so I guess winter has finally set in and I am so ready for spring. 🙂
