This week’s neglected book

Denton Little’s Deathdate by Lance Rubin

Series: Denton Little #1
Release Date: April 14, 2015
Publisher: Knopf Books for Young Readers

**WINNER of the ILA Young Adult Book Award!**

Get ready to die laughing: this is an outrageously funny ride through the last hours of a teenager’s life as he searches for love, meaning, answers, and (just maybe) a way to live on.

Denton Little’s Deathdate takes place in a world exactly like our own except that everyone knows the day on which they will die. For Denton, that’s in just two days—the day of his senior prom.

Despite his early deathdate, Denton has always wanted to live a normal life, but his final days are filled with dramatic firsts. First hangover. First sex. First love triangle—as the first sex seems to have happened not with his adoring girlfriend, but with his best friend’s hostile sister. (Though he’s not totally sure—see, first hangover.) His anxiety builds when he discovers a strange purple rash making its way up his body. Is this what will kill him? And then a strange man shows up at his funeral, claiming to have known Denton’s long-deceased mother, and warning him to beware of suspicious government characters. . . . Suddenly Denton’s life is filled with mysterious questions and precious little time to find the answers.

Why did I add Denton Little’s Deathdate to my bookshelf?

I first became interested in this book after reading Grace @ Rebel Mommy Book Blog‘s review.  (Her blog is awesome by the way – you should totally check it out if you haven’t had the chance to do so yet.)  When I happened to see this book at my dollar store, I bought it immediately and felt like I hit the jackpot because I knew that I was going to love this book.  It has sat patiently on my bookshelf since that day.  Maybe I will try to get to it someday soon.

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it to others?

  1. I have not heard of this one, but it does sound interesting! I am not sure I would want to know the exact date when I will die. While it would be nice to prepare–I worry I would be overcome with the anxiety of everything I didn't get to do . . .

  2. I hadn't heard of this one but it sounds interesting. Sigh. Too many things sound interesting right now and I won't be able to do much next week with working all the time. So I'm trying to get everything done in advance now. I look forward to hearing about it when you read it. Anne – Books of My Heart

  3. Oh, you just reminded me of this book! I do want to read it too – all the reviews for it were so positive and it sounded like so much fun. Hope we can both get to it soon 😀
