A sweet and sexy hockey romance about two ex-teammates and former best friends with benefits who are about to discover whether you can ever really have a second chance. From the USA TODAY bestselling author of the Game Changers series and Time to Shine.
After moving back to his hometown ten years ago, Riley Tuck thought he had left his major league hockey career—and his broken heart—far behind. But when an unexpected tragedy strikes, it brings ex-teammate and former best friend with benefits Adam Sheppard back into his life.
Coming to the small town of Avery River, Nova Scotia, might have been a mistake. Adam’s not sure he’ll ever win back Riley’s trust after the way they left things—and the attention he’s getting as a huge hockey star isn’t exactly helping. Yet the chemistry that crackles between them is undeniable, even now.
As Adam helps Riley navigate his grief, long-buried feelings start to resurface. But they’ll have to square off with their complicated past if they’re going to have a real shot at a new beginning.
I had a great time with this second-chance hockey romance! The main characters used to play hockey, but they have both retired from the sport these days. Riley and Adam were teammates, roommates, best friends, and sometimes lovers. Riley left the team and Adam when he didn’t feel like his feelings were returned. Adam was trying to live the life that was expected of him, which meant a wife and children. Adam has since come to terms with his sexuality and would love another chance with Riley. Riley is deep in grief after the sudden loss of his father and can’t believe that Adam is really there to help.
Adam and Riley were great together. Adam didn’t have any expectations but wanted to help in whatever way he was able. It took a while, but Riley eventually let him help with a few things and even let him stay in his home. Both men have grown a lot over the years and I really liked the fact that we were able to see how they used to be through flashbacks scattered throughout the story. I hoped that this pair would finally be able to find their happily ever after with each other.
Greg Boudreaux did an amazing job with the narration of this audiobook. I believe that this was the first time that I have had a chance to listen to his narration work and I was quite impressed. He was able to bring the story to life by adding just the right amount of emotion to his reading. I liked the voices he used for the various characters in the story. I believe that his performance added to my overall enjoyment.
I would recommend this book to others. I have had a lot of luck with Rachel Reid’s books and this book is no exception. I fell for this pair of characters and wanted to see good things happen in their lives. I can’t wait to read more of this author’s work.
I received a review copy of this book from Harlequin and Harlequin Audio.
While I’m not big on sports romance this does sound good.
