Your husband was involved in a fatal accident.
One horrific sentence, delivered in an impersonal phone call, changes Celine Thompson's life in a second. But when she's asked to identify his body, what she discovers sends everything she thought she knew about her life crashing down.
This man is not my husband.
But who was the man who died driving Tate's car? How did he have Tate's possessions and, more importantly, why do they sport identical tattoos?
We're going to find him.
When Tate doesn't answer his phone or arrive home after the accident, Celine fears the worst. Still holding on to hope her husband may be alive, Celine is desperate to track Tate down and figure out what's going on before it's too late. The only problem? There are dark truths waiting to come out that are so atrocious she won't ever be able to look away from them.
As she begins to put together the pieces of the mysterious day her husband went missing, it paints a picture of a man she never really knew. Is it possible Tate is still alive, or is she wasting her time searching for someone who will never be found? And if he is alive, how will they ever survive all that she's unearthed?
With time running out, Celine must push the limits of the law and her safety to shed light on the secrets that have been hiding in the dark corners of their life together. In doing so, she may just uncover the final missing piece to the puzzle surrounding her husband's fate.
Someone is lying.
Someone is missing.
Someone is guilty.
In this menacing, dark, and completely twisted domestic thriller, million-copy bestselling author Kiersten Modglin deep dives into a marriage riddled with lies, a couple with wicked secrets, and a woman who will stop at nothing to discover the truth about her husband's disappearance. Forget everything you think you know...
This was incredibly entertaining! I was in the mood for a shorter listen that I could listen to in a single day, so I decided to try this book. It was exactly what I was looking for. The story immediately hooked me and kept me guessing until the end. I was invested in the outcome of this mystery and found it incredibly hard to set my headphones aside.
Celine gets a call that no wife would ever want to hear: the police say that her husband was killed in a vehicle accident and she needs to come to identify the body. When she gets there she realizes that the man who died is not her husband. She is determined to figure out exactly what is going on and identify the man who died driving her husband’s car. Her questions will upend everything she thought she knew and she dives into the past.
The multi-cast narration helped to take this story to the next level. The story is told from various points of view so the use of multiple narrators was ideal. I thought that all four of the narrators had pleasant voices and felt that their voices complimented each other. I like that they were all able to add the perfect amount of emotion to their reading to bring the story fully to life. I believe that this story is best experienced in audio.
I would recommend this book to others. I found this to be a very compelling mystery that had enough twists and turns to keep things interesting. I do hope to read more of this author’s work in the future.

When Sophie Thatcher wakes up in a room she doesn't recognize after a night she can't remember, she assumes she had too much to drink and went home with a date.
Except...the date is nowhere to be found.
No one is.
The space she finds herself in is completely nondescript-the walls bare, fridge empty. And just when she thought things couldn't get bleaker or more confusing, she realizes the doors are locked from the outside.
Trapped inside an unfamiliar place and faced with a clock counting down to a mysterious deadline, Sophie tries desperately to recall the hours missing from her memory and formulate a plan to escape, but each attempt proves more futile than the last.
Hidden away from the world and unable to contact the people who would care that she's missing, Sophie has two questions ringing in her mind: Who would bring her to this place? And why?
When she's joined in her personal prison by someone she never thought she'd see again, everything changes and the idea of her being a random target instantly vanishes. Whoever brought Sophie to this place has plans for her and, if she can't figure out a way to escape before time runs out, her fate may be to remain hidden forever.
Ominous, dark, and completely disturbing, this pulse-pounding thriller from the twisted mind of million-copy bestselling author Kiersten Modglin is unlike anything you've read before.
This was exciting! After enjoying The Guilty One, I wanted to try more of Kiersten Mogdlin’s work, so I decided to try this book. This story was different than I expected but I found it entertaining and it kept me guessing until the very end. I had a hard time setting this book aside and was able to finish it in a single day.
Sophie wakes up after a night out to find herself in an unfamiliar location with a raging hangover. She is upset with herself for getting herself into this situation through drinking too much but she soon learns something much more sinister is going on when she is unable to leave. When someone from her past becomes locked in the same space, she has even more questions. I was worried about the safety of Sophie and her unwilling roommate and couldn’t wait to see if they would be able to outsmart their captors.
Gail Shalan does a fantastic job with this audiobook. This was a really intense story and I thought the narrator captured that in her reading. I found her voice to be very pleasant and had no problems listening to this story for hours at a time. I liked the various voices she used to fully bring each character to life. I am certain that her performance added to my overall enjoyment of this story.
I would recommend this book to others. I found this to be an engaging mystery that was full of twists and turns. I grew to like Sophie and wanted to see things work out for her in the end. I hope to read more of this author’s work in the future.
