In June 1993, a group of young guerilla filmmakers spent four weeks making Horror Movie, a notorious, disturbing, art-house horror flick.

The weird part? Only three of the film’s scenes were ever released to the public, but Horror Movie has nevertheless grown a rabid fanbase. Three decades later, Hollywood is pushing for a big budget reboot.

The man who played “The Thin Kid” is the only surviving cast member. He remembers all too well the secrets buried within the original screenplay, the bizarre events of the filming, and the dangerous crossed lines on set that resulted in tragedy. As memories flood back in, the boundaries between reality and film, past and present start to blur. But he’s going to help remake the film, even if it means navigating a world of cynical producers, egomaniacal directors, and surreal fan conventions—demons of the past be damned.

But at what cost?

Horror Movie is an obsessive, psychologically chilling, and suspenseful feat of storytelling genius that builds inexorably to an unforgettable, mind-bending conclusion.

Why did I add Horror Movie to my bookshelf?

I attended the local author event for the release of this book right around the time it was published and it has sat on my shelves looking lonely ever since. I am signed up to work the event for his next book in just a few weeks which reminded me that I still need to read this one. The reviews look pretty middle of the road so I hope that it works well for me.

I close on my new house in less than a week and my daughter gets married in just over a week. It is super busy in my world right now. We didn’t plan to move but I saw a house with a mother-in-law suite that would be perfect for my mom so we decided to go for it as a group. She has lived in the same house for 42 years so it will be a big change, but I think that it will be a positive one.

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it?

  1. Oh nice! I have not read this author but have seen his books around! Such exciting things coming up for you! I’m still trying to find a house but haven’t had any luck myself, been a long time searching and it’s extremely frustrating in my shoes. But I try to remain hopeful. Mainly I miss my books which have to stay in storage during all this searching!

  2. I think it’s awesome that you found a house that will work for your mom too. Good luck with the move and the wedding. I hope the book is good for you.
