Mercenary Kate Daniels must risk all to protect everything she holds dear in this epic, can’t-miss entry in the thrilling #1 New York Times bestselling urban fantasy series.
Kate has come a long way from her origins as a loner taking care of paranormal problems in post-Shift Atlanta. She’s made friends and enemies. She’s found love and started a family with Curran Lennart, the former Beast Lord. But her magic is too strong for the power players of the world to let her be.
Kate and her father, Roland, currently have an uneasy truce, but when he starts testing her defenses again, she knows that sooner or later, a confrontation is inevitable. The Witch Oracle has begun seeing visions of blood, fire, and human bones. And when a mysterious box is delivered to Kate’s doorstep, a threat of war from the ancient enemy who nearly destroyed her family, she knows their time is up.Kate Daniels sees no other choice but to combine forces with the unlikeliest of allies. She knows betrayal is inevitable. She knows she may not survive the coming battle. But she has to try.
For her child.
For Atlanta.
For the world.
I absolutely loved this book! There really is no word that describes how amazing this story is. I have been looking forward to this book since I finished reading the previous book in the series almost two years ago. I have also dreaded reading this book because I knew going in that this was going to be the final book in the Kate Daniels series which part of me never wants to see come to an end. I am so impressed by this story and the way that Kate’s story was wrapped up. Reading this book was such a wonderful experience.
As I said, this book is the final book in the Kate Daniels series which really should be read in order. This story starts shortly after the events in the previous book with Kate and Curran becoming parents. I am not always a big fan of kids in books but this kid only added to the story. I loved seeing Kate and Curran with Conlan and had a great time seeing them fall into some of the same behaviors I have seen in other new parents. It was interesting to see how much changed in the way they faced parenthood by the end of the story.
When I pick up a Kate Daniels book, or any book written by Ilona Andrews for that matter, I expect an exciting story with a lot action and that is what I got in this book. All of the battles, fights, bad guys, and chaos that I have come to expect in this series made an appearance and if anything the action may have been turned up a notch. There were times that I found myself holding my breath and turning pages as fast as I could just to see how things would work out.
This book also had all of the humor that I had hoped to find. I was especially excited to find a few lines that mentioned other key moments in the series. I thought that was a wonderful way to remember how far these characters have come. The banter between Kate and Curran was awesome as always and I was happy to find more than a few swoony and touching moments between them. The chemistry between them is as strong as it ever was.
I highly recommend this series to others. I feel like I have been on an amazing adventure with this group of characters and I wouldn’t change a single second of the adventure. This is a series that I will read again and again over the course of my lifetime without growing tired of it. I hope to catch a few glimpses of Kate and Curran in future books set in this world just to check in from time to time.

I really will have to go back to this series at some point!
Some people don't care for the first book quite as much as the later books in the series but I have nothing but good things to say about the entire series.
YAY for an awesome final for this series!
I am sad that it is ending but I couldn't think of a better way for things to wrap up.
I really enjoyed this installment, too, but for me, there was less action than I was hoping for. But the banter – totally top notch! I reread this series over the first half of this year, and already I want to read it again.
Awesome review, Carole!
Thanks, Angie Elle! I thought that the book was really well balanced. This is a series that I am sure I will turn to many times over the years.
time to start reading me says
I think you would like this series, Ailyn Koay!
Yep! It was a great final book. Their new parents thing was really cool the way it was written. I forgot to mention all that in my review. Way to summarize it, Carole!
Thanks, Sophia Rose! I thought that watching them with Conlan was just a lot of fun 🙂
I've read loads of good things about this series and am glad that you enjoyed it too. I just know I couldn't commit to that many books though – too easily distracted!
I don't mind long series as long as they are good. I would have read as many Kate Daniels books as they were willing to write.
I should start this series at some point.
I think that you would love this series, Mary!
Why did it have to end!? Whyyyyyyy
I am sad that it is over but I am happy that it ended well.

They really outdid themselves with this one.
Why am I not caught up in this series?!
You are in for a treat when you do get caught up, Wendy!
I listened and thought it was a wonderful end to the series. Although I am delighted she will revisit the world and series.
I can't wait to catch a glimpse of these characters again in future stories.
I really loved this ending to a great series. Gordon and Ilona did an amazing job. I'm so glad to see that there are several spinoff books in the future and some that I haven't seen mentioned, but seem to have been written into the end of this book. Great review.

I do think that they left a lot of opportunities for future stories which I am really looking forward to.
It's always a bit bittersweet reading the final book in a series you love because you need to know the ending but you don't want things to end either! I am glad this was such a worthy ending though, and a great way for the series to go out with 😀
It really was a great ending!
