Twin sisters separated by the past are reunited by unspeakable crimes in New York Times bestselling author Mary Burton’s throat-clutching novel of suspense…
Trauma victims are not new to medical examiner Faith McIntyre, but this one is different. The unconscious woman clinging to life after a hit and run is FBI agent Macy Crow. What the woman from Quantico was doing in a dark alley after midnight is just one mystery. The other is more unsettling: Macy is Faith’s mirror image—the twin sister she never knew she had.Faith knew that she was adopted, but now she’s finding that her childhood concealed other secrets. Following the trail of clues Macy left behind, Faith and Texas Ranger Mitchell Hayden make a shocking discovery on an isolated country ranch—a burial ground for three women who disappeared thirty years before.
They weren’t the only victims in a killer’s twisted plot. And they won’t be the last.
As the missing pieces of Faith’s and Macy’s dark lives snap into place, Faith is becoming more terrified by what she sees—and by what she must do to save her sister and herself from the past
I liked this book. I found it to be a really well done romantic suspense novel. This is a stand-alone novel but I did find a connection to another one of her books, The Last Move, through the characters which I found interesting. I found this book to be easy to listen to for hours at a time as I worked to try to solve the mystery. I ended up have a great time with this story.
The action starts right away in this book with the discovery of the body of a man that has been tortured. This is just the start of a rather complicated and far-reaching chain of events. I really wasn’t sure how everything would work out or how one thing was connected to the next but as the book progressed everything just seemed to fall into place. There are events from the past connected to other things that are happening in the present day which really added to the mystery.
I liked the characters quite a bit. Faith is the medical examiner tasked with working on the initial body. She was smart and dedicated to the job. She was also the kind of person that really worked to help others and got personally involved at times. Macy is Faith’s equal in every way and they share a much deeper connection. I wish that Macy could have been a bigger part of the story but I did appreciate what she did add to the tale. Ranger Hayden was good at his job and worked really well with Faith. They made a great team and it was fun to see all the pieces come together.
I thought that Brittany Pressley did a great job with the story. This book had a rather large cast of characters and I thought she handled them all really well. She was able to add a lot of emotion to the story at times and was able to add some excitement to other scenes. This was my first time listening to Brittany Pressley’s work but I was really impressed and hope to get the chance to listen to her narration again soon.
I would recommend this book to fans of romantic suspense. I liked that the mystery element to this story seemed to take the main stage with the romance adding a nice extra element. I plan to read more from Mary Burton in the future.
I won a digital copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway and borrowed the audio from Kindle Unlimited.

sounds amazing! I do hope it has a happy ending, it is more thriller or just suspense?
I'd say it had both thriller and suspense, but more time in suspense. All the time in suspense for the missing girl.
It seemed more suspense but there was some aspects that could be considered a thriller. I thought that the book ended well.
I really enjoyed this also. Great review! It was very good, not amazing but really very good and a great pleasure to listen. 4 hearts are the bulk of what I read and I'm lucky it is mostly 4 heart reads not 3 heart reads. Anne – Books of My Heart
I seem to have a lot of 4 star reads lately. I guess that I am pretty good at knowing what I will like and what I won't but there are some 3 stars as well. I enjoyed this one.
I like the thriller and suspense angle but I'm just not sure about the romance part! The plots sound good though.
The romance is really much more minor and didn't interfere with the story.
Oh yes I always have a good time with her stories!
I have liked all of her books that I have read so far!
Sounds like a decent read. I'll keep an eye out for the audio.
Audio was a great way to experience this one, Laurie!
I would not have guessed rom sup. It was just so creepy looking in a way
It does have a creepy cover!
I've had my eye on Mary Barton's books to try at some point. Glad you enjoyed this one. Brittney Pressley narrates some of Carolyn Brown's books and I've liked her in those.
I think that you would like Mary Burton's writing based on the few books that I have read so far. Brittney Pressley did a great job with this narration.
I'm glad you had a great time with the story! I'm looking at the cover and trying to think of romance, but it isn't working. I guess I'll have to listen to it myself to find it!
Lindsi @ Do You Dog-ear?
Really more of a mystery thriller than romance. It has a very nice balance.
It's been too long since I've read any of her books. A visit to the library is in order.
I need to check out some of her backlist so I will be checking my library as well.
I love a good romantic suspense and this sounds like it hits the spot.
I thought it was very well done, Nadene!
I've not read this author, but I think I've listened to this narrator and enjoyed her work. I'm glad you enjoyed this one. I have to agree with Laura, a trip to the library is in my future. 🙂

I had a great time trying to figure out who was behind everything in this one, Melanie!
I'm a huge fan of Romantic Suspense, so I have to check this one out.
I hope you enjoy it if you get the chance to read it, Joy!
I admit I tend to prefer the mystery to be stronger than the romance in romantic suspense novels. This one sounds really good. Finding out you have a twin . . . That must have been quite a shock. I will have to look for this one.
I would imagine it would be a huge shock to say the least!
I've been reading a lot more classical victorian kind of mystery novels and I am now on the hunt to looking for some modern thriller mysteries to read, so I am going to keep an eye out for this one. It sounds like it is well written and developed, and then makes it fun to try and solve the mystery as the book unravels as well 🙂
I really did like the way the story unfolded. I hope you enjoy it if you get the chance to read it!
