In the newest Night Rebel novel, set in New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress world, beautiful, daring vampire Veritas risks all to protect Ian.

Some promises are meant to be broken…

Veritas spent most of her life as a vampire Law Guardian. Now, she’s about to break every rule by secretly hunting down the dark souls that were freed in order to save Ian. But the risks are high. For if she gets caught, she could lose her job. And catching the sinister creatures might cost Veritas her own life.

Some vows are forever…

Ian’s memories might be fragmented, but this master vampire isn’t about to be left behind by the woman who entranced him, bound herself to him, and then disappeared. So what if demons, other Law Guardians, and dangerous, otherworldly forces stand against them? Come hell or high water, Ian intends to remind Veritas of the burning passion between them because she is the only person seared on his mind—and his soul…

My Review

I loved this book!  It is no secret that I adore the entire Night Huntress universe.  Ian has always been a great character and I was thrilled when I learned about this spin-off series featuring his character.  I loved the first book in the Night Rebel series, Shades of Wicked, and couldn’t wait to get my hands on this newest book.  Let’s just say that I went into this book with sky-high expectations and I wasn’t disappointed.  This book was just as good as I had hoped it would be.

This is the second book in the Night Rebel series which I would recommend reading in order.  This book picks up shortly after the events of the previous book.  Ian and Veritas are not together.  Ian shouldn’t remember any of their time together and Veritas is committed to finding all the souls that were freed in order to save Ian.  There is one big problem.  Ian doesn’t want to forget Veritas or let her go.

I love Ian and Veritas.  I was a bit frustrated with Veritas at the start of this book because I just wanted to see Ian and Veritas together and she was making things difficult.  It all works out though because Ian rises to the challenge.  I thought that their personalities really shined in this book and their feelings for each other made my heart happy.  I think that I liked each of these characters a bit more with every page.  They are both smart, tough, and willing to take risks.

I thought that the story was really exciting.  Even though I feel like I know this world really well, I love that there were a few surprises in store in this book.  There was plenty of action and there were times that I didn’t know how things would work out.  It really seemed like they were outmatched at times and it was great to see Ian and Vertias rise to the challenge.

I would highly recommend this book to others.  I had a fantastic time with this book and loved that it was everything I hoped it would be.  I cannot wait to read more of this amazing series!

I received a digital review copy of this book from HarperCollins – Avon Books via Edelweiss.

I used to read vampire stories all the time, and Frost is up there with the best of them. Not surprised you really love the series. Hugs, RO

  2. Ian was always my favourite character and I do have the first book in the series. I haven't enjoyed most of the spin offs I tried as they are heavier on the romance than the main series. I'm not sure I'll like the books but I will probably try it at some point.

  3. I just loved the first book too and I just bought this so I can't wait to read it. Ian and Veritas I fell in love with and I never thought I would love Ian as much as I do now. Not surprised he rises to the challenge he faces with Veritas.

    Great review.

  4. Wow, these Iam books are getting rave reviews. I am behind because I haven't read the 7th Cat & Bones book because I didn't want it to end (gasp). I have read the Spade and Mencheres books and I own the entire Vlad series on audio and the first book of this series in ebook. I haven't been sure if I like Tavia Gilbert or not. So I'm going to try the Vlad series on audio. I have the original Night Huntress in paperback and ebook.

Maybe I'll get back to it this year along with other books I own.

    • I love Tavia Gilbert's narration of this world! She does the perfect Bones and really all of her voices are perfect. I will be re-reading this one via audiobook at some point. I am currently working my way through the universe through audio and the first book in Vlad's series is up next!

  5. I love when books have focuses on characters you liked but were secondary in other series! And Ian and Veritas sound like a couple that really work and bring out the best in each other when they both rise to making the relationship work. ^.^
