This week’s neglected book

Trunk Music by Michael Connelly

Series: Harry Bosch #5
Publication Date: January 28, 1997
Publisher: Little, Brown and Co

Back on the job after an involuntary leave of absence, LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch is ready for a challenge. But his first case is a little more than he bargained for. It starts with the body of a Hollywood producer in the trunk of a Rolls-Royce, shot twice in the head at close range – what looks like “trunk music,” a Mafia hit.

But the LAPD’s organized crime unit is curiously uninterested, and when Harry follows a trail of gambling debts to Las Vegas, the case suddenly becomes more complex – and much more personal. A rekindled romance with an old girlfriend opens new perspectives on the murder, and he begins to glimpse a shocking triangle of corruption and collusion. Yanked off the case, Harry himself is soon the one being investigated. But only a bullet can stop Harry when he’s searching for the truth . . .

Why did I add Trunk Music to my bookshelf?
I have read the books in this series leading up to this one in the Harry Bosch series and really enjoyed them all.  I have collected most of the books in the series but I got sidetracked somewhere along the way.  Heck, I even got several of the books signed by the author.  I probably need to go back and start at the beginning at this point since it has been quite a few years since I have read any of these books.  It looks like book #33 in the Harry Bosch Universe is scheduled to be released sometime this year so I have a lot of work to do.

This was taken in May 2009 so just a few years ago 🙂  My sister and I went
to see Michael Connelly at our local library and had a great time!

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it to others?

  1. I want to read this series because Jonetta loves it. I haven't read any or seen the tv show. I want to do it on audio and only some are available at the library which makes it potentially more expensive if I have to buy them especially with so many. Hopefully I can get the first one or so at the library (on audio) so I can decide. Good luck. I would do a read-along but it is waaaaay too many for that.

  2. How fun that you have some signed copies and already have a stack of the books. Hopefully, you won't have to go back too far to get caught up with where things are at in the series.

  3. I don't think I had ever put Bosch together with Michael Connolly! I've heard great things about the Bosch series. How fun to have some that are signed! Hopefully you'll get back to this series soon.

  4. Book #33! Wow that's quite a series. This one does sound really good though.

"Trunk music"- I learned a new mob term…

  5. My sisters loves this series and has been following it for more than 25 years. I’ve never read them (just not my genre) but it’s great that you got to meet the author!

  6. Wow I could not start a series that already has 33 books! I don't have the space on my e-readers and shelves for that! The author must be good to keep the readers going for that period of time!
