For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life--until the unthinkable happens.

Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

Why did I add Where the Crawdads Sing to my bookshelf?

I couldn’t resist adding a copy of this book to my shelf when I caught it on sale. Everybody seemed to be loving it and I just knew that I would as well. I am still pretty sure that I will like it if I ever get around to reading it. It seems that my friends on Goodreads either loved it or thought it was just okay. It does sound like something I would like so I have high hopes for it. Hopefully, I can kick my reading up a notch and get to it sometime in the near future.

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it?

  1. Oh man…..I have been wanting to read this book for ages. I am just not sure if it will be for me but I know SO Many rave about it. I can’t wait to see what you think of this one here. Hope you enjoy it.

  2. This one seemed to be everywhere a year or so ago. Despite all the great reviews, and my sister insisting I needed to read it, it just doesn’t appeal to me. Can’t help that! 🙂 I hope you’ll love it when you get to it.

Oh wow you have got to read this book. I read it for my in-person book club a few years ago it was intense and so good. Read it!

  4. Oh gosh, I’m in the same boat as you with this one. Everyone is raving about it, but I just haven’t found the time to make it a priority.
