R is a young man with an existential crisis—he is a zombie. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he has dreams. His ability to connect with the outside world is limited to a few grunted syllables, but his inner life is deep, full of wonder and longing. After experiencing a teenage boy’s memories while consuming his brain, R makes an unexpected choice that begins a tense, awkward, and strangely sweet relationship with the victim’s human girlfriend, Julie.
Julie is a blast of color in the otherwise dreary and gray landscape that surrounds R. His choice to protect her will transform not only R but his fellow Dead and perhaps their whole lifeless world. Scary, funny, and surprisingly poignant, Warm Bodies explores what happens when the cold heart of a zombie is tempted by the warmth of human love.
Why did I add Warm Bodies to my bookshelf?
I bought a copy of this audiobook more than 5 years ago but haven’t listened to it yet for some reason. I did see the movie and remember enjoying it but have forgotten all the details. This one has a lot of things that appeal to me. I am a big fan of zombie stories and this book has an interesting take on the genre. It is also a relatively short book so it isn’t a huge time investment (unless I decide to read the whole series). It is actually pretty highly rated on Goodreads with a 3.91 average rating and all of my Goodreads friends have given it either 4 or 5 stars so I have high hopes for it.
What are your thoughts? Have you read this book? Would you recommend it?
Ooh nice one! This one I have read! It was enjoyable! I have the sequels all piled up on my TBR pile as well. I may “cheat” and watch the movie for a decent recap of what all happened! Lol.
Hard to believe this one is over a decade old! I remember when it released and everyone was reading it. Sounds like it’s right up your alley.
It sounds like the kind of thing I would like but kind of forgettable. I hope you like it.
This one was on my TBR for a while too. I also remember enjoying the movie when it came out, but I think I removed the book from my list shortly after seeing the film. I feel like I got the just from the movie haha.
I remember this one. I am not a zombie fan, but I picked it for a zombie blog event and it was a cute one. It can standalone if you don’t want to keep going with the series though it shows where the series will go next.
I read this a while back and loved it. I bet the audio is pretty good, too. The movie was fun. Hope you enjoy it, Carole!
I saw the movie. I dont remember a lot
I always toy with the idea of reading this book, but I saw the movie. I have thing about reading books after seeing the adaptation. It’s a great story though
I remember seeing this around- sounds fun! 🙂
I’ve avoided this one because of the zombies but I know several people who read it and really enjoyed it. I hope you do too!
Ha I think I have this book too! The movie was really good.
I NEED to get after my TBR shelf. There are just too many interruptions of newest books, challenge catch-ups, book club selections etc. Oh my, what’s a girl to do? LOL
