She’s rewriting his love story. But can she rewrite her own?

Emma Wheeler desperately longs to be a screenwriter. She’s spent her life studying, obsessing over, and writing romantic comedies—good ones! That win contests! But she’s also been the sole caretaker for her kind-hearted dad, who needs full-time care. Now, when she gets a chance to re-write a script for famous screenwriter Charlie Yates—The Charlie Yates! Her personal writing god!—it’s a break too big to pass up.

Emma’s younger sister steps in for caretaking duties, and Emma moves to L.A. for six weeks for the writing gig of a lifetime. But what is it they say? Don’t meet your heroes? Charlie Yates doesn’t want to write with anyone—much less “a failed, nobody screenwriter.” Worse, the romantic comedy he’s written is so terrible it might actually bring on the apocalypse. Plus! He doesn’t even care about the script—it’s just a means to get a different one green-lit. Oh, and he thinks love is an emotional Ponzi scheme.

But Emma’s not going down without a fight. She will stand up for herself, and for rom-coms, and for love itself. She will convince him that love stories matter—even if she has to kiss him senseless to do it. But . . . what if that kiss is accidentally amazing? What if real life turns out to be so much . . . more real than fiction? What if the love story they’re writing breaks all Emma’s rules—and comes true?

I loved this book! I have become such a big fan of Katherine Center’s writing over the past couple of years. I haven’t read all of her books yet (I am working on it) but have enjoyed every single one I have picked up. I was very excited to pick up her newest book and it did not disappoint. Emma and Charlie were fantastic characters and I love the humor woven throughout the story. I found this delightful novel to be incredibly entertaining.

Emma’s desire to be a screenwriter has taken a backseat to caring for her father. When she gets the chance to help the much-loved screenwriter, Charlie Yates rewrite his new rom-com, she almost turns down the opportunity. When her sister agrees to take over Dad’s care, she packs her bags and heads to L.A. The only problem is that Charlie doesn’t know that she is coming. After getting over a few speed bumps, the pair agree to work together. They have a lot more in common than screenwriting and I loved watching these two open up to each other.

Patti Murin does a phenomenal job with the narration of this book. I have loved her narration work in the past so the fact that she nailed this book is no surprise. She adds just the right amount of emotion to her reading to fully bring the characters to life. I loved the way that she was able to elevate the humor that is a big part of the story as well. I am certain that her performance added a lot to my overall enjoyment of this story.

I would highly recommend this book to others. I had such a great time with this love story between two characters and I wanted to see them find their own happily ever afters, hopefully together. I thought Charlie and Emma had wonderful chemistry together and they just seemed to work as a pair. I cannot wait to read more of this talented author’s work.

I received a review copy of this book from St. Martin’s Press and Macmillan Audio.
