When first published, A Cold Day in Paradise won both the Edgar and Shamus awards for Best First Novel, launching Steve Hamilton into the top ranks of today's crime writers. Now, see for yourself why this extraordinary novel has galvanized the literary and mystery community as no other book before it....

Other than the bullet lodged near his heart, former Detroit cop Alex McKnight thought he had put the nightmare of his partner's death and his own near-fatal injury behind him. After all, the man convicted of the crimes has been locked away for years. But in the small town of Paradise, Michigan, where McKnight has traded his badge for a cabin in the woods, a murderer with the same unmistakable trademarks appears to be back. McKnight can't understand who else would know the intimate details of the old murders. And it seems like it'll be a frozen day in Hell before McKnight can unravel truth from deception in a town that's anything but Paradise.

Why did I add A Cold Day in Paradise to my bookshelf?

I was browsing through some of the older books gathering dust in my digital library and found this novel. I bought this book in April 2011 which is somewhat embarrassing. I was certain I picked it up as a freebie, but I paid for it which makes the fact that I completely forgot about it even worse. I guess it is a very good thing that books don’t go bad. It sounds pretty good and it won some awards so I really should give it a try soon.

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it?

  1. I know! I have soo many books that have been in my TBR for 10+ years now. It’s embarrassing. Lol. And the thing is I still want to read them. But I can’t seem to find the time to read all the books the second I want to read them! Lol. If only I didn’t need to sleep. That would seriously put an end to the TBR pile after a year or two! I could go back to re-reading! Hope you’re able to read this one soon!

  2. No worries, Carole. We all have books we paid for lingering on her shelves (real and digital). At least you are making an effort to uncover and read some of them. Hope it is a good one.

  3. I can’t remember what books are hiding in my Kindle. I bought so many early on and then never ended up reading them! This one looks good!
