This week’s neglected book

Still Life by Louis Penny

Series: Chief Inspector Armand Gamache #1
Publication Date: 2005
Publisher: Minotaur Books

As the early morning mist clears on Thanksgiving Sunday, the homes of Three Pines come to life – all except one…

To locals, the village is a safe haven. So they are bewildered when a well-loved member of the community is found lying dead in the maple woods. Surely it was an accident – a hunter’s arrow gone astray. Who could want Jane Neal dead?

In a long and distinguished career with the Sûreté du Quebec, Chief Inspector Armand Gamache has learned to look for snakes in Eden. Gamache knows something dark is lurking behind the white picket fences, and if he watches closely enough, Three Pines will begin to give up its secrets…

Why did I add Still Life to my bookshelf?
I have been collecting the books from this series for a while.  I bought this one in September 2016 but added some from the series as far back as November 2013.  I have just been adding the books over the years as they have went on sale and I now have the first 8 books ready to go.  I do like a good mystery and this series has receive a lot of positive reviews.  I am looking forward to finally starting it sometime soon.

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it to others?

  1. There was a episode on CBS Sunday Morning that featured Louis Penny. It was interesting to watch because all the books she has written have focused on Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. I haven't read any those books, but I would like to read the first one sometime in the future. My library book club ladies enjoy that series.

I do hope you enjoy it when you have a chance to read it.

  2. I read the first 7 Alex Cross books by James Patterson, then grabbed the rest of the series up to about 20 I think but lost interest in going back to them! I need to catch up on the Lincoln Rhyme books by Jeffery Deaver though! I loved the first two!

  3. One of my favorite vloggers touted this series early in the fall and I thought it sounded good, too. Hopefully you'll really enjoy book one and can zip right through the ones you've collected. I am definitely guilty of collecting a series of books before reading the first one. LOL

  4. I haven't read this series, but it does sound good! I love a well written whodunnit, and the allure of Thanksgiving gives this an extra bit of allure.

    Thanks for sharing! 🙂

  5. I hadn't heard of this one but I love mysteries and English ones. I try not to buy but to get them at the library even if they go on sale until I have at least read the first one to see if I like it but I do sometimes. I hope you love them. Anne – Books of My Heart

  6. So your backlog post has basically turned into a contest for me of "Do I have Carol's choice on my shelves somewhere?" This week it's a no.

  7. I actually remember coming across this book some time ago. I didn't add it to my list. Don't remember why. Probably because I had so many others already.

  8. Collecting up a series before even starting it might be good for me going forward too because I am hopeless at getting hold of books in the right order! I do hope you enjoy these, especially having waited over 5 years to read some of them
