This week’s neglected book

Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers

Series: His Fair Assassin #3
Publication Date: November 4, 2014
Publisher: HMH Books for Young Readers

Annith has watched her gifted sisters at the convent come and go, carrying out their dark dealings in the name of St. Mortain, patiently awaiting her own turn to serve Death. But her worst fears are realized when she discovers she is being groomed by the abbess as a Seeress, to be forever sequestered in the rock and stone womb of the convent. Feeling sorely betrayed, Annith decides to strike out on her own.

She has spent her whole life training to be an assassin. Just because the convent has changed its mind doesn’t mean she has…

Why did I add Mortal Heart to my bookshelf?
I should have made time for this book long before now.  I have no excuses.  I read the first two books in this trilogy, Grave Mercy and Dark Triumph, back in 2014.  I gave both of those books 5 stars.  I was crushed when my review for this book was denied on NetGalley but I made plans to borrow the book from my library.  I have since purchased a Kindle copy and a hardcover copy.  The only problem is that I usually have so many ARCs that I don’t have time to read much else.  I am working to change that and this is a series that I definitely want to revisit.  Although it has been so long since I read the first two books, I am probably going to need to read them again before diving into this book.

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it to others?

  1. I own the first book in this series, and I have heard great things, but I have yet to start it. If I was in your position, 2 books in with high ratings, I would make some time for it, just to see how it all ends.

  2. I've got so many series that I started and liked but never got back to. I'm hoping to re-read a book one tonight and plough into the rest of the series!

  3. What a coincidence! I loved the first book, gave it five stars and read the next one only to love it more. I then ended up buying book three and not reading it. Hopefully, you'll get a chance to read more off your shelves this year. 🙂

  4. Since you've read the first two I'd think you'd already have this one done. I hope you get to it soon!

  5. I had Grave Mercy sitting on my bookshelf for *years* and finally had to ace facts that I was never going to read it. Now seeing that you gave the first two book five stars has me kicking myself. LOL

  6. I read this entire series in 2019 on audio from the library, all the way into the new duology. They are definitely all 4.5 – 5 heart reads for me. I LOVED these. I say give it a chance when you can fit it in.

  7. I loved Grave Mercy but never read the others. That's something I need to correct I think lol- I'm not even sure why I never got to the next one!

  8. I remember when this series got a lot of hype! I have so many books on my Kindle that I haven't read either, and I find that by the time I read the ARCS due, there's no time left over. I hope you get to it eventually, since you loved the first two books.

I've never read any of these but I'm all for finishing a series. That's one of my goals this year, a continuation from last year. 😀

  10. I am atrocious at finishing series and often delay reading the last book for a long time too. I really need to try this series, I haven't read any yet but I know so many people enjoy them.
