When a young woman clears out her deceased grandmother’s home in rural North Carolina, she finds long-hidden secrets about a strange colony of beings in the woods in this chilling novel that reads like The Blair Witch Project meets The Andy Griffith Show.
When Mouse’s dad asks her to clean out her dead grandmother's house, she says yes. After all, how bad could it be?
Answer: pretty bad. Grandma was a hoarder, and her house is stuffed with useless rubbish. That would be horrific enough, but there’s more—Mouse stumbles across her step-grandfather’s journal, which at first seems to be filled with nonsensical rants…until Mouse encounters some of the terrifying things he described for herself.
Alone in the woods with her dog, Mouse finds herself face to face with a series of impossible terrors—because sometimes the things that go bump in the night are real, and they’re looking for you. And if she doesn’t face them head on, she might not survive to tell the tale.
From Hugo Award–winning author Ursula Vernon, writing as T. Kingfisher, The Twisted Ones is a gripping, terrifying tale bound to keep you up all night—from both fear and anticipation of what happens next.
Why did I add The Twisted Ones to my bookshelf?
It looks like I added this audiobook to my account a little more than a year ago. T. Kingfisher is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors so I am eager to read more of her work. This book sounds like it has all of the creepy vibes that will make it perfect for spooky season. It may be time to give this one a try!
What are your thoughts? Have you read this book? Would you recommend it?
Nice! That’s a new to me one! I love creepy reads!
I read this for a book club earlier this year and really enjoyed it. It has the cutest dog ever in it!
I would like this book, it’s right up my alley. Thanks for sharing, Carole ☕🎃📚🍁🧡
Oh yeah, good for spooky season! I am tickled by that blurb comment that its a mash of Blair Witch Project and Andy Griffith. LOL
Knowing how much you enjoy Kingfisher, this is bound to be a hit for you. 🙂
Robin loves T Kingfisher but I am not a horror reader.
I am not familiar with this book, but I know the author is fairly popular. Blair Witch meets Andy Griffith — that’s an interesting combination
Hope you like it. Not my cup of tea.
Perfect for this time of year!
I haven’t read this one because Kingfisher’s horror books are too creepy for me, but I love her other work. If you like horror novels I’ve heard lots of great things about this one!
I haven’t read this one, but I’m totally here for the creepy vibes!
I haven’t read it so I hope it’s good.
I haven’t read anything by T. Kingfisher, but I see the name everywhere and her books do sound good. I hope you enjoy this one when you read it!
I haven’t read this one, but it’s been on my TBR list for awhile now.
This author has so many books on my TBR that it’s getting ridiculous! This sounds really good.
