I am really excited to participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Reading Reality.
My Life
This week was hard. To put it plainly, this week kicked my ass. I knew that this week would be tough when I saw my schedule for my part-time job but it was harder than I expected. After working long shifts both Saturday and Sunday last weekend, I was scheduled to work both Tuesday and Wednesday nights. This means that I had two 15-hour workdays in a row. I can handle long work days but I need some quiet time the next day to recover. I was basically worthless after work on both Thursday and Friday. Reviews did not get written, comments didn’t happen, and I didn’t even feel up to reading.
I did have yesterday off from both jobs. My first Saturday off since I started my part-time job. My husband and I had a full day, starting with breakfast at a restaurant that we had never been to before. I spent some time in our hot tub when we got home which felt wonderful. Then we decided to do some mattress shopping and should be getting our new mattress today. I have spent 6 months sleeping on a mattress on the floor and am giddy just thinking about getting back in my bed tonight.
I will do my best to get back to my routines this week.
How was your week?
What I’m Reading
I read 4 books this week and they were all audiobooks. I can listen to audiobooks while I do my full-time job or this total would probably be zero. I finished Loyalty in Death by J.D. Robb early in the week and really enjoyed it. Seriously, Roarke is the best! Black Sheep by Rachel Harrison kept me glued to my headphones with more than a few surprises. I decided that I was in the book for romance so I picked up Lotus by Jennifer Hartmann which was very well done. Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid was probably my favorite of the week. Shane and Ilya were wonderful characters and their romance was exactly what I needed at the end of a stressful week.

I have read about 40% of Starter Villain by John Scalzi and love this author’s sense of humor. I needed more of Shane and Ilya so I started listening to The Long Game by Rachel Reid and can’t wait to see how things work out.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
I keep saying that I could never work two jobs. I am glad you spoiled yourself a bit yesterday.
Oh man! That sounds very stressful! The hot tub part sounds relaxing and yay for a new mattress! The things we look forward to when being an adult! Lol. Hope you enjoy your day off today as well!
Nice new reads! Super curious about To Kill a Shadow! I did end up preordering that in B&N’s last sale because I am loving the cover and colors and it sounds interesting too! Hope you enjoy all the fantastic new reads!
Here’s my StS
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
That was a tough work schedule! I hope this week’s schedule is a better one for you.
That is rough. Maybe you can request not to schedule 2 week nights in a row? I’m curious what kind of mattress you got as we are starting to look for new ones. I hope this week is smoother and I’m glad to hear you got Saturday off. The last thing I would want to do with a day off is go shopping though.

Those are some long days. Congrats on the new mattress though. I need to get a copy of Starter Villain!
What a delightful post. It is good to catch up with your latest.
Today (Sunday) we had an author event at RAE’S READS, my bookstore. She was a cookbook author and we served Russian Wedding Cookies (know here as Mexican Wedding Cookies, same recipe) from her cookbook and hot or iced peach/ginger tea from The Republic of Tea. And…a good time was had by all.
I’m so sorry to read how that back to back double shift kicked you down but glad you got at least a full Saturday to recharge. Yay for the new mattress and getting through some good audio listening. I was thrilled to get the next Haven Rock story, too.
Have a good week, Carole!
Wow that’s a lot of hours! And I’ve heard so much about Black Sheep! I need to get that.
I completely understand the need for quiet time after a long day. At my work, we are entering our busiest season of the year. I just agreed to come in and work this week on what would normally be my off days. When I get home, I just shut down completely lol.
Sorry to hear it was such a rough week. There’s no way I could work 15 hour days. My body would revolt and I wouldn’t be able to function. Thank goodness for the Saturday off to rest and recharge. The hot tub sounds wonderful. Hope you’re enjoying the new mattress!
Wow, that is crazy busy. Hope things calm down a bit. Have a great weekend.
Yay for a day off and how fun to get a new mattress. I think it’s getting that time for us and I’m both dreading it and looking forward to it! I love your reading nook. It looks cozy and full of books – what could be more perfect!
