From the acclaimed author of Gone Girl, “a riveting tale of true horror by a writer who has all the gifts to pull it off” (Chicago Tribune)
“Sensuous and chilling . . . a propulsive and twisty mystery.”—Entertainment WeeklyLibby Day was seven when her mother and two sisters were murdered in “The Satan Sacrifice of Kinnakee, Kansas.” She survived—and famously testified that her fifteen-year-old brother, Ben, was the killer. Twenty-five years later, the Kill Club—a secret society obsessed with notorious crimes—locates Libby and pumps her for details. They hope to discover proof that may free Ben.
Libby hopes to turn a profit off her tragic history: She’ll reconnect with the players from that night and report her findings to the club—for a fee. As Libby’s search takes her from shabby Missouri strip clubs to abandoned Oklahoma tourist towns, the unimaginable truth emerges, and Libby finds herself right back where she started—on the run from a killer.
Why did I add Dark Places to my bookshelf?
This book was everywhere for a while. I picked up a used copy at a local book sale and always thought of it as something that I would read later. I still do but I am not sure exactly when later might be anymore. It looks like I doubled down on my intentions to read this book when I picked up a copy of the audiobook during a sale. I have only read a novella by this author but I know that she is very popular and hope that this one works as well for me as it has for many of my Goodreads friends.
What are your thoughts? Have you read this book? Would you recommend it?
Nice! I know of this author but never read her myself. I think my sister read one by her though…
Hope you’re able to get to it soon and enjoy it as expected!
I read Gone Girl and didn’t like it at all even though I know people adored it. After that, I’ve not read anything else by this author. Hope you love this one.
I have not yet read this author.
I haven’t read it but I may put it in my wishlist now, it sounds good.
I am not sure I have seen this one much. But its also a genre I don’t really read. But hope this hyped book is a win for you as it has been for others! The cover definitely conveys the creepy vibe.
I only read Gone Girl by Flynn which I thought was really great. Well plotted for sure. I hope this is a good one for you.
I know how that goes with the ‘read it later’ bit. Although, I don’t feel as much guilt about neglect when I snagged it used for pennies on the dollar. I’ve not read any of her books yet, but want to try eventually.
I remember wanting to read this after I read Gone Girl, but I never managed to get to it. I am not sure if I even have my copy anymore. It might have ended up being donated to the library. I hope you enjoy it when you do read it, Carole.
I have this one on my shelf too. I think I bought it right after I read Gone Girl. I’ll be curious to see your thoughts on it when you get to it.
I haven’t read this one (I only rarely read thrillers) but I hope you enjoy it!
