From the beloved author of Just My Type and Lease on Love comes a new romantic comedy in which a former actress-turned-screenwriter finds herself back in the spotlight, only for her romantic lead to be the one man she can’t stand.
Emmy Harper is no stranger to Hollywood, having penned some of the most popular movies of the past few years. But her latest project has hit a standstill—unable to find the perfect leading lady, Emmy’s been recruited to take on the role herself, dusting off acting skills she hasn’t used in over a decade.
Things take a turn for the worse when a she's left with the one costar she can’t trust: Grayson West. A blockbuster action hero known for his megawatt smile and impossible abs, Grayson is anyone’s dream of a romantic lead. Too bad Emmy still blames him for her disastrous first movie and the early end to her acting career.
The friction between the two risks tanking the movie, and no one knows if it’s lingering awkwardness from their youth or unresolved sexual tension. But if they want to save the production—and their own careers—they need to get their acts together quickly, both on and off camera.
I had a great time with this book! I read Falon Ballard’s first two books last year and enjoyed them both so I was excited to get my hands on this new novel. I am happy to report that this book was another winner. I liked Emmy and Greyson and thought that they had wonderful chemistry with each other. I thought that the fact that the story takes place on a movie set added a fun element to the story since they found themselves in some pretty interesting situations playing their parts. I am so glad that I picked up this fun romance.
Emmy is a screenwriter and doesn’t usually act in the films that she helps to create but she finds herself in front of the camera for the first time in years for her newest work. Greyson is ready for something different than the typical action film that he is known for. There is just one little problem – these two don’t like each other because of things that happened on another movie set years ago. As they spend time together, they start to realize that maybe they don’t hate each other quite as much as they thought.
I listened to the audiobook and thought that the cast of narrators did a great job of bringing this story to life. Curt Bonnem, Rachel L. Jacobs, Gail Shalan, and Andera Emmes all played a part in bringing this fun romance to life and I think that the decision to use multiple narrators was the right one with this book. I thought that all of the narrators’s voices complimented each other’s nicely. I had a hard time putting this book down and I believe that their performances were a big part of that.
I would recommend this book to others. I was eager to see Emmy and Greyson warm up to each other and eventually find their happily ever. I loved that there was a bit of humor worked into the story to balance out the romance. I cannot wait to read more of this talented author’s work.
I received a review copy of this book from G.P. Putnam’s Sons and Penguin Random House Audio.
This sounds like a fun one. And I always enjoy full-cast narration/multiple narrators. It really helps bring the story to life.
I seem to be struggling more than usual with some romance titles right now so I’m being cautious.
Lots of narrators 😀 It has been a while since I listened to a book like that
I went the full five on this one. I had a great time with these two, but I also loved the way Emmy took back her life in front of the cameras and that they finally cleared the air.
Oh this looks cute and I love that it takes place on a movie set! Another one I need to add to my TBR!
