New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis returns to Sunrise Cove with a heartwarming story about the choices we make and the love we let into our lives...
Luna Wright is a lot of things, but sweet and trusting isn’t on the list. However, she’s a sucker for the underdog and a hard-luck story. Adopted at birth, with scant knowledge of her biological family, she’s created her own inner circle, a motley crew which includes her bestie Willow, to help her run the struggling but charming Apple Ridge Farm.
With a farm-to-table café as well as a menagerie of rescued animals (complete with a baby goat who keeps escaping to the pantry to eat the secret stash of decidedly not organic potato chips), it’s the best home she’s ever known. But when the owner Silas, who they secretly call The Grinch, passes away, Luna discovers the farm is now under control of his investment manager, the enigmatic Jameson Hayes….and her. And that Silas had many, many secrets.
Now Luna’s carefully controlled corner of the world is threatened and she—along with some help from her friends—has to dig deep to find true strength and the real meaning of love and family.
This was a wonderful story! I have been a big fan of Jill Shalvis’s writing for a while now so I was pretty excited to pick this book up. Once I started reading this book, I did not want to stop. I just had to know how this group of characters were going to save the farm and their way of life. It was so easy to slip into this highly entertaining story.
Luna was so easy to like and I enjoyed getting to know the entire cast of characters and loved the family that they created together. I thought the relationship between Luna and Jameson felt authentic and I felt like they had wonderful chemistry with each other. They have both been through some hard things in their past and it was nice to see them start to open up to each other. I enjoyed that we got to see a second romance between Luna’s best friend, Willow, and her estranged husband. The animal characters were a bonus.
Andi Arndt did a fantastic job with the narration, as she always seems to do. She was the perfect narrator to tackle this book. Her character voices were incredibly well done which helped to bring this story to life. She added just the right amount of emotion to her reading and was able to elevate the humor within the story. I am certain that her performance added a lot to my enjoyment of this story.
I will be recommending this one to others. I fell for this sometimes quirky group of characters right away and was invested in the outcome of the story. Jill Shalvis seems to be able to write the best found families and this book was no exception. I cannot wait to read more of this author’s work.
I received a review copy of this book from Avon Books.
This sounds like a really sweet story! I love a good found family story, and second chance romances are a favorite trope of mine so I’d be rooting for Willow’s story, too.
This author is an auto read for me and I enjoy her even when I am “off” mood for romance.
I’m so looking forward to reading this one!
I am putting this one as one of my faves from Shalvis. The farm, the animals, the quirky characters – I loved them all.
This was fun one! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. It almost made me want a baby goat – almost!
