Summer won't last forever.

Sage Byrd has lived in the coastal town of Spunes, Oregon (not to be confused with Forks, Washington) her entire life. She's learned to love her small world, with the misfit animals on her hobby farm, and her friendships with the town’s inhabitants. But when her 5-year relationship ends and her ex, town-golden-boy Ian, suddenly gets engaged, Sage needs a win—something that will convince everyone to stop pitying her all the time, and to put Ian in his place. The Festival of Spunes, the town’s annual summer competition, would be the perfect opportunity. She just needs a partner.

Fisher Lange was a hotshot chef in New York City until the loss of his sister left him numb, grieving, and responsible for his teenage niece Indy. When Fisher loses his Michelin star along with his love of cooking, his boss sends him and Indy to Spunes on a much-needed summer sabbatical to consult on a restaurant opening. But when clashes with the townspeople threaten his last chance to redeem himself and a kiss with his new neighbor Sage leads to dating rumors, a strategic alliance might just be the best way to turn things around.

A deal is struck. Sage will improve Fisher’s image in the eyes of the town and remove the roadblocks he is facing with the restaurant, and Fisher will be Sage’s partner for the competition. But as their pact quickly turns into steamy rendezvous, emotional wounds begin to heal, and the pair tries to savor every moment, they start to realize that summer is racing by much faster than they would like...

Filled with spicy summer fun, small-town charm, and Big Feelings, this highly anticipated romcom is Tarah DeWitt’s best yet.

"Simply unputdownable. A top read for me this year!"
—Elsie Silver, USA Today bestselling author of Flawless

"DeWitt’s sprightly narrative is by turns funny and red-hot, as Sage and Fisher, who share a love of puns, develop some serious chemistry... This is a charmer." —Publishers Weekly

This was a wonderful romance! This is the first book written by Tarah DeWitt that I have read but it will not be my last. I was drawn to these characters immediately and couldn’t wait to see how things would play out for them. They have all had to deal with some pretty tough situations, and I hoped they could help each other heal. This story was very entertaining, with a nice dose of cute animals and just enough humor to keep things interesting.

Sage is a lifelong resident of Spunes, Oregon. She lives alone with a menagerie of animals after losing her parents at a young age. She is extremely curious about the new neighbor who just moved next door for the summer. Fisher became the guardian of his niece, Ivy, after the death of his sister. He is a well-known chef who has fallen on some bad luck and needs a second chance, which is what he hopes to find in Spunes. The pair have fantastic chemistry and are drawn to each other right away. The only problem is that Fisher and Ivy are only here for the summer so they don’t want to become too attached to each other.

I listened to the audiobook and thought that Karissa Vacker and Zachary Webber did an amazing job with the narration. I have had good luck with both of these narrators’ previous work so I was excited to get started with this story. I thought that their voices paired well together and I loved the fact that they were able to make the characters feel incredibly authentic. I thought they were both able to add the perfect amount of emotion to their reading. I believe that their performances added a lot to my overall enjoyment.

I would not hesitate to recommend this book to others. I thought that this was a fun but heartfelt romance with characters that I grew to care about over the course of the story. I love the thread of humor present throughout the novel. I hope to read more of this author’s work in the not-too-distant future.
