Like father, like son . . .

April 1777

Alexei McKesson is a man caught between two worlds: the son of the disgraced former Duke of McKesson, and an adopted warrior of the Standing Stone. For the past two years, Alexei has been pirating ships on the St. Lawrence, and he’s never been caught until . . .

While spying on a meeting between the British and the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, three of Alexei’s men were captured and imprisoned in Fort Niagara to be used in negotiations with the Crown.

When he learns about a ship bound for the colonies carrying a wealthy heiress and a cache of weapons, he hatches a plan to steal the cargo and force the British into trading for his men. But Alexei’s about to get more than he bargained for.

Beautiful, rebellious Lady Wilhelmina Townsend is searching for her missing brother, and she would do anything to find him—even relinquish her freedom to be with a husband she does not desire. When her ship bound for the colonies is set upon by thieves, Will finds advantage in adversity and joins forces with Alexei.

Now they race against time to arrange the trade and find Will’s missing brother as enemies are plotting against them, those with a vested interest in sending her back to her husband and forcing the Confederacy into siding with the Crown. Passion ignites when these two rebellious souls collide on the American frontier, but ghosts of the past threaten to undermine their love, truths yet to be revealed, so dark and dangerous they could tear Will and Alexei apart.

This book contains graphic content and depictions of war.

This was fantastic! I have loved the previous books in this series so I was eager to get my hands on The Rebel. Based on my experience with T.J. London’s previous books, I went into this book expecting a saga filled with characters that would work their way into my heart and that is exactly what I got. This book was an experience and I quickly found myself invested in Alexei and Will’s life.

I was familiar with Alexei from some of the other books in this series but I feel like I really got to know him in this installment. Will finds herself in a difficult situation when Alexei takes her from her ship as a bargaining chip. Will is newly married but has no feelings for the husband she wed by proxy. Even though Alexei and Will are initially at odds, she quickly learns that she can depend on him to keep her safe when they find themselves in difficult situations. I really enjoyed learning about their pasts and watching them grow closer to one another.

The full-cast narration was able to take this novel to the next level. Each of the narrators expertly brought this colorful cast of characters to life through their performances. I am impressed by how consistent the narration has been throughout the series. I almost felt like I was right there with the characters navigating these experiences and believe that the narration added to my overall enjoyment of this story.

I would recommend this book to others. This book is listed as the fourth book in the Rebels and Redcoats Saga but I think that it could work as a stand-alone since it focuses on a different pair of characters. Readers of the series will appreciate catching up with much-loved characters. I can’t wait to read more of this entertaining series.

I received a review copy of this book from the author/publicist.

  1. I love this series. This one was a bit odd for me though with the events already covered in the Carlisle trilogy and this one open ended, so there must be an Alexi book to follow. Or a Will book. I didn’t like Alexei very much here.

  2. This series has really caught my attention and I’m glad to see you’re still enjoying it. I really need to try it. The premise is fantastic.
