This week’s neglected book
The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon

Publication Date: November 1, 2016
Publisher: Delacorte Press

Natasha: I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.

Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store—for both of us.

The Universe: Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true?

Why did I add The Sun Is Also a Star to my bookshelf?
I can’t believe that this book is still sitting on my bookshelf unread.  I jumped on a copy when it was offered at the Book of the Month club right after its release and was really excited to have the chance to read it since I loved Everything, Everything.  Yet, I still haven’t got around to it.  My daughter did read it which makes me feel a little bit better about my purchase.

What are your thoughts? Have you read this book?  Would you recommend it to others?

  1. Never feel that you are the only one who gets jazzed over a book, buys it, and then lets it set. 😉
I need to read both her books still. I've had them on my wish list for a while.

  2. I've seen loads of good reviews of this one, but I've not read it yet either! I hope you enjoy it when you do get to it. I guess your daughter liked the read?

  3. This was a 5-star read for me. Look, I love Yoon's storytelling, and she crafted two awesome characters in this book. It was an all-in-a-day romance, and I loved being with Daniel and Natasha. There was all these cool stuff related to timing and ripple effects and fate, which slowly came together, and I appreciated it once the whole picture came into to view. I also thought the ending was quite strong, considering that I am smiling about it right now and I read this book back in 2016

  4. I remember the hype when this first came out. I do that too. Get all excited about a book, finally grab it, and then it gets lost in the stacks.

  5. I saw this movie advertised over the weekend and Mr. Barb commented it looks like something I'd watch. I forgot all about it being a book.

  6. Oh I've done that so many times! And then I could just kick myself. I didn't love Everything Everything but I know it was very much a case of it wasn't the book it was me. I hope this one lives up to your expectations!

  7. I have way too many that have been lurking on my shelves for ages! I'm hoping to unearth some short ones as I think I might go for quick reads for April to get me ahead of schedule as I quite often have summer slumps!

  8. Ah, I have seen this author's books around but I don't really have any inclination or big want to read them. As they aren't really a top priority for me I don't think I'll be buying and reading her books.

  9. It happens. I don't anything about this one. But that doesn't mean anything. I hope you enjoy it if you fit it in. Anne – Books of My Heart

  10. This has been on my Goodreads shelf forever. I haven't bought a copy of it yet. I hope you get a chance to read it. At least your daughter enjoyed it. ?✨

  11. This was one of my favorite books the year I read it. I haven't decided yet if I want to see the movie. The trailer makes it look good, but will it be just as good?
