Stacking the Shelves #219

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life
This week was not what I expected.  I woke up Monday morning and looked at my phone to find an email from my boss which stated that he expected us to go back to our regular work schedule in the office on Monday.  That was a rather rude awakening, to say the least.  I have been going into the office for a few hours every afternoon but I didn’t expect to have to spend an 8 hour day there until business picked back up.  So, I am spending my days at work again without a whole lot to do so we are cleaning and organizing and getting various other tasks done.  I can’t say that I am happy about this development but at least I am getting more audiobook time in again and I am thankful to have full-time work.

After working all day, walking the dogs, and making dinner, I was exhausted this week.  I didn’t get as much blog hopping done as I wanted but I worked to catch up once the workweek was over.  I am noticing that my comments are going straight to spam on a lot of WordPress blogs so I just want to encourage blogger so make sure you are checking your spam.  I have reached out to bloggers when I know it has happened but I am not always sure.

I hope all the Moms out there have a wonderful Mother’s Day today!

What I’m Reading
This week I read Joseph Finder’s House on Fire which I enjoyed.  For audiobooks, I finished Cold Burn of Magic early in the week and listened to Forgotten Sins which was a library borrow.

I just started reading Sure Shot by Sarina Bowen and am a few hours into the audiobook of Dark Heart of Magic by Jennifer Estep.

Books Added

Book of the Month
Happy & You Know It by Laura Hankin
A Good Marriage by Kimberly McCreight
Bringing Down the Duke by Evie Dunmore

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

  1. I guess my going to work everyday as normal is good in a sense that I don't have that rough transition of being at home and being forced to work again. I hope things pick up to a better normal for you soon!

I still need to finish this Jennifer Estep series myself! I read the first one as an ARC however long ago that was! I hope I can find a summary/recap somewhere…that one may have been read before my note-taking/keeping days!

Hope you enjoy all the new reads!

    Here's my StS

    Have a GREAT day!

  2. I hope you get some rest today, mom, as it's your day. Wow! I don't know how I will feel, when I have to return to the office. I am actually busier helping this other team, since they are so backlogged. I grind all day, and the day flies, but when I am at work, the volumes ebb and flow. I got more reading done when I was in office though. HA! Hope it goes well back in the office, and that they are taking precautions to protect you

  3. Happy Mother's Day!
Yeah, that was a quick return to work. Glad you were already transitioning into it.

I know Shari checks our spam now and then, but let me know if you catch that any of your comments don't show up. I see them so far.

    Have a good week!

  4. No wonder you are tired; it's an abrupt change. I try to check my spam fairly regularly. I am sure my comments go to spam on some sites.

    Take care! Happy Reading!

  5. Wow, not a lot of notice! I am not ready to be back in the office and thankfully my company is taking it very slowly. No change to the WFH order yet. Love that photo, Carole! How clever! Hope you're enjoying Sure Shot. I really loved it.

  6. Joseph Finder is always reliable for a good read! It sounds like your work is taking the appropriate measures to sanitize, even if you are the one doing the cleaning! I'm still working from home for now, but they are starting to reveal some of the preventative measures we will take when we do return. Masks, temperature checks, and reduced capacity will all be in play.

Wow, nice of your boss to give you so much warning. 🙁 I hope everyone being at work will be safe. Good thing yall are doing so much cleaning, etc. I did notice you weren't around as much; makes sense. I'll miss having so much time to read, to visit blogs, and work on my blog when I go back to work.

Stay safe, and have a good week!

  8. Bummer that you have to work, especially when there's not much to do! At least you're focusing on the positives 🙂

    Happy Mother's Day!

  9. I had the same problem recently with my comments going to spam on WP blogs. So frustrating! I ended up emailing Akismet after a blogger recommended it and they were super helpful and were able to fix it! Maybe that might help if the problem continues…

That would definitely be an unwelcome surprise about the work thing. I honestly think as many people as possible should be able to work from home if at all possible, given the circumstances. I know some places are better about that than others…

Hope you have a safe and good week.

  10. It's a bit of a shock to get summoned back into work so quickly. It's not as if the US is over the peak yet so the timing is strange. I hope you are able to stay safe now you have to go back full time. I haven't bought any books this week but I'm still waiting for that new Grady Hendrix book to arrive from Amazon!

  11. Oh no Carole, I'm sorry you got rushed back to work. When is your shelter in place supposed to end?

I don't know if I already said this, but I really like the new look!

Bringing Down the Duke is a book I'm really curious to read.

  12. I have been at work during all of this, but on Thursday it will be truly business as usual, will be weird.

  13. I've been doing some part-time work at my office but I know once I head back full time it will be quite an adjustment. Like you though, I'll be glad to have a job though and consider myself lucky. I do think maybe your boss should have given you more notice though. Hope you have a great week and I've heard really good things about Bringing Down the Duke.

  14. Talk about last minute! It would have been nice if your boss would have given you more warning. And then with so little too do . . . But you are right, at least you have a full-time job. I wasn't sure what was going to happen in my office since our Board of Supervisors are lifting some of the restrictions. Fortunately, our director (whose bosses are the BOS) seems to be more inclined to caution than they are and nothing has really changed for us yet.

I hope you are enjoying your reading! Yay for more audio time! I can't remember when I last got to listen to my current audiobook. Will I finish it this year? That is the question. Haha.

I hope you had a nice Mother's Day. Take care and stay safe and well.

  15. That's crazy about the last minute notice and I can imagine a bit of a pain but hopefully that audio book time makes up for it! It looks like my husband will be working from for the foreseeable future which I'm not sad about. But he can easily work from home so that makes a bit more sense. I wouldn't be shocked if a lot of the really big companies end up making those that can work from home do so as it would save them a fortune on building fees and whatnot. Hope you are having a great week and had a happy Mother's Day.

  16. It's absolutely insane that the boss expects you all to hop back into work so suddenly and quickly! I hope they have put safety measures in place for social distancing and everything. I also have heard really good things about Bringing Down the Duke 🙂
