Weekly Wrap Up #454

I am really excited to participate in The Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Reviewer and Stacking the Shelves hosted by Reading Reality.

My Life

This week felt very busy. It was raining for much of the week, bringing the crowds to the library, especially in the children’s area. We joined the community center to get some exercise, so I walked 3.5 miles before heading to work on Wednesday. And ended up with a blister on the bottom of my foot. Thursday morning, I took one of our dogs to the vet before going to work. I left work for a couple of hours in the middle of my shift to go to the eye doctor along with my husband (we have the most exciting dates!). We ordered 3 pairs of glasses (I need 2 and my husband needs 1), which should be in sometime in the next couple of weeks.

I also had a bit of fun. Friday night after work, I went to a friend’s house to attend an in-person book club. I didn’t read the book because my eye is just not cooperating, but I had a good time visiting with the group. On Saturday, I met up with a group of people that I worked with at Barnes & Noble and had a great time.

Unfortunately, I came home to a flooded basement after my lunch on Saturday. My husband has been working his tail off just trying to keep up with the water coming in. It is so strange. We had no water come in at all for the first 4 years we lived here, but this is the second time that we have had large amounts of water come in everywhere after several days of constant rain. I need to get someone in to see what needs to be done to waterproof the basement, but I know that I cannot afford to spend any significant money right now. I have taxes to pay this month and a wedding to pay for next year (not to mention the 3 pairs of glasses that I just purchased).

How was your week?

What I’m Reading

I finished one book this week. I finished The Book of M by Peng Shepherd the morning of the book group that I was hosting at the library. Nothing like cutting it close. It was a good book, and everyone in the group enjoyed it. We had a great discussion about the book, and I really enjoyed being a part of such an entertaining session. I have to read Ender’s Game for next month’s group before I hand the group back over to the regular leader who has been out on paternity leave.

I started listening to The Love Haters by Katherine Center just this weekend while working out at the community center. I can already tell that I am going to love it. I once again didn’t make any progress with King Sorrow by Joe Hill or Before the Hunt by Barry Lyga, but I hope to get back to both soon as my eyes allow.

Books Added

What I Should’ve Said by Max Monroe (Publisher); When the Moon Hits Your Eye by John Scalzi (Publisher)

  1. Glad to hear you had a bit of fun in-between all the responsibilities. I would love to be part of an in-person book club, but the ones at my library don’t really read books I am interested in. That’s terrible about your basement. I hope they are able to figure out the issue.

  2. Wow! That sounds like a busy week! Glad things were busy at the library for you, that always helps the day go by quicker at least! But oh no, to the basement flooding! That’s so weird too since it only just started. Well, I know when my parents need to get their basement worked on due to foundation issues they went with Woods Basement Repair…or something like that, but they would NOT recommend using them! They were very disorganized when it came to the project that initially was going to be a 1 day project, then 2, and then lasted several months. And the billing became a nightmare as well. They just had no organization or administration when it came to their projects. This was about 2.5-3 years ago, right before they moved. So yeah, wouldn’t recommend going with them at all! It’s possible they could’ve gotten their act together, but it was a nightmare! As a side note, they never sent us the final bill and eventually when my brother-in-law bought the house they sent an outstanding notice to him! I never really seen my stepdad fired up at others until that moment…lol, but he still kept his cool for the most part, but since I know him, I could tell he was ticked! So yes, we would not recommend Woods at all! Lol.

Nice new reads! These are new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them!

  3. I hope your eyes will improve. So glad to hear you had some fun with book club and then book store friends! Here in NC we have no basements, only crawl spaces. At least most homes. Unfortunately it means there are always steps to go into the house, which are tough for some people.

  4. How frustrating about the basement. Fingers crossed that there’s at least a mildly easy (or inexpensive) fix. It sounds like you were able to get some fun mixed into the stress. The Katherine Center book is really calling me. I’m thinking about spending a Libro.fm credit on it. Have a great week!
