Sometimes I wrestle my demons. Sometimes we just snuggle.—Bumper Sticker
Most girls might think twice before getting engaged to someone like Reyes Farrow—but Charley Davidson is not most girls. She's a paranormal private eye and grim reaper-in-training who's known to be a bit of a hell-raiser, especially after a few shots of caffeine. Her beloved Reyes may be the only begotten son of evil, but he's dark and sultry and deeply sexy and everything Charley could hope for. Really. But when the FBI file on Reyes' childhood happens to land into her lap, she can't help herself: She opens it...and then the real fun begins. First, Charley finds a naked corpse riding shotgun in her car. Then, a man loses his soul in a card game. Throw in a Deaf boy who sees dead people, a woman running from mobsters, and a very suspicious Reyes, and things can't get any worse for Charley. Unless, of course, the Twelve Beasts of Hell are unleashed...
Sixth Grave on the Edge is the sixth Charley Davidson novel from bestselling author Darynda Jones

This was really good! I found this story to be just as entertaining as the previous installments and the humor never seems to let up. There is a lot going on in this book but somehow Charley juggles it all, with some help from her friends, of course. I have really grown to love this group of characters and I had a fantastic time with this installment.

Charley is a busy woman once again. She is determined to get Cookie a date with Uncle Bob and will stop at nothing to make that happen and let’s just say that some of her plans in this arena need some work. She is on a deadline to find a witness and has no idea where to turn. If she doesn’t find the witness, the people she loves will be in danger so the stakes are quite high. There were also some developments in her relationship with Reyes which are always welcome. Lorelei King continues to do an amazing job with the narration of this series. I can’t wait to start the next book!

Twelve. Twelve of the deadliest beasts ever forged in the fires of hell have escaped onto our plane, and they want nothing more than to rip out Charley Davidson's jugular and serve her body to Satan for dinner. So there's that. But Charley has more on her plate than a mob of testy hellhounds. For one thing, her father has disappeared, and as she retraces his last steps she learns he was conducting an investigation of his own, one that has Charley questioning everything she's ever known about him. Add to that an ex-BFF who is haunting her night and day, a rash of suicides that has authorities baffled, and a drop-dead sexy fiancé who has attracted the attentions of a local celebrity, and Charley is not having the best week of her life. But all of that barely scratches the surface of her problems. Recent developments have forced her to become a responsible adult. To conquer such a monumental task, she's decided to start small. Really small. She gets a pet. But how can she save the world against the forces of evil when she can't even keep a goldfish alive?
A tad north of hell, a hop, skip, and a jump past the realm of eternity, is a little place called Earth, and Charley Davidson, grim reaper extraordinaire, is determined to do everything in her power to protect it.
We're doomed.

The print edition includes a bonus chapter not available in the e-book edition.

This was just a lot of fun! It had all of the humor that I have come to expect from the series along with plenty of excitement. This is a series that really does seem to be read in order since each book builds on the events from the previous books. I was thoroughly entertained by this book and am so glad that I finally worked this series into my reading schedule.

Charley is in danger and Reyes is determined to keep her safe. I love seeing Charley learn and use new abilities and I have a feeling that we have only scratched the surface on what she can really do. All of the key characters that I have grown to love played an important role in this installment. There were quite a few jaw-dropping revelations to keep things very interesting. I listened to the audiobook and thought that Lorelei King did a phenomenal job with this installment. I am looking forward to reading more of this series very soon.

Charley Davidson has enough going on without having to worry about twelve hellhounds hot on her trail. She is, after all, incredibly pregnant and feeling like she could pop at any moment. But, just her luck, twelve deadly beasts from hell have chosen this time to escape onto our plane, and they've made Charley their target. And so she takes refuge at the only place she thinks they can't get to her: the grounds of an abandoned convent. Of course, if hellhounds aren't enough, Charley also has a new case to hold her attention: the decades-old murder of a newly-vowed nun she keeps seeing in the shadows of the convent.
Add to that the still unsolved murder of her father, the strange behavior of her husband, and Charley's tendency to attract the, shall we say, undead, and she has her hands full...but also tied. While the angry hellhounds can't traverse the consecrated soil, they can lurk just beyond its borders like evil sentries, so Charley has been forbidden from leaving the sacred grounds. Luckily, she has her loyal team with her, and they're a scrappy bunch who won't let a few thirsty hellhounds deter them.

While the team scours the prophesies, searching for clues on the Twelve, for a way to kill them or at least send them back to hell, Charley just wants answers and is powerless to get them. But the mass of friends they've accrued helps. They convince her even more that everyone in her recent life has somehow been drawn to her, as though they were a part of a bigger picture all along. Their presence is comforting. But the good feelings don't last for long because Charley is about to get the surprise of her crazy, mixed-up, supernatural life....

I had a blast with this book! I feel like this is a bit of a turning in the series. Charley is due to have a baby any day and in order to stay safe, she is staying in an abandoned convent with the rest of her crew. What could possibly go wrong? Of course, Charley is still in danger and there are plenty of exciting scenes worked into the story along with a nice dose of humor.

There were plenty of surprises worked into this story which kept me glued to the pages. There were some pretty big life events for not only Charley and Reyes but also Cookie, Uncle Bob, and the rest of the characters. The ending left me a little speechless and I am very eager to see what will happen next in this series. Lorelei King continues to do a phenomenal job of bringing this series to life. I cannot wait to start reading the next book!

  1. I read the first two or three in this series years and years ago. I remember loving Charley. I really enjoyed the humor included and have always wanted to reread them and start the series over so I can finally finish. I know, Bookworm problems, right? But maybe I’ll make plans to work on this one next year. Glad you are still loving the series this deeply in.

  2. Good for you and thanks for your thoughts. I have had this series to read/listen to etc. for years and for some reason everytime I pick one up I put it back down. I think I’ve read 1 and 2 but that’s it. I absolutely LOVED her Sunshine Vicram series so why I keep putting this one off is beyond me. Maybe someday LOL

  3. I’ve only read the first two books in this series, but they made me laugh. Good to know these are equally fun reads.

  4. I’ve really enjoyed the Sunshine Vicram series by this author and I liked the first book (though I had some issues with the love interest). I really need to get back to this series as it sounds so fun!
