Grim Reaper Charley Davidson is back in the twelfth installment of Darynda Jones’ New York Times bestselling paranormal series, The Trouble with Twelfth Grave.
Ever since Reyes Farrow escaped from a hell dimension in which Charley Davidson accidentally trapped him, the son of Satan has been brimstone-bent on destroying the world his heavenly Brother created. His volatile tendencies have put Charley in a bit of a pickle. But that’s not the only briny vegetable on her plate. While trying to domesticate the feral being that used to be her husband, she also has to deal with her everyday life of annoying all manner of beings—some corporeal, some not so much—as she struggles to right the wrongs of society. Only this time she’s not uncovering a murder. This time she’s covering one up.
Add to that her new occupation of keeping a startup PI venture—the indomitable mystery-solving team of Amber Kowalski and Quentin Rutherford—out of trouble and dealing with the Vatican’s inquiries into her beloved daughter, and Charley is on the brink of throwing in the towel and becoming a professional shopper. Or possibly a live mannequin. But when someone starts attacking humans who are sensitive to the supernatural world, Charley knows it’s time to let loose her razor sharp claws. Then again, her number one suspect is the dark entity she’s loved for centuries. So the question becomes: Can she tame the unruly beast before it destroys everything she’s worked so hard to protect?
This was great! I cannot believe that this series is almost over. It seems like there is so much for Charley and her friends to wrap up. Things between Charley and Reyes are tense in this installment and I had no idea what might happen next. There were some pretty intense moments and a few moments that broke my heart a bit.
I listened to the audiobook and thought that Lorelei King did a great job with the story. She has become the voice of Charley and I couldn’t imagine experiencing this series any way besides the audio at this point. She brings this cast of characters to life through her narration and brings just the right amount of emotion to her reading. I do believe that her narration added to my enjoyment of this story.
I would definitely recommend this book to others. This book has the perfect blend of action, humor, and romance and I have grown to care for these characters quite a bit. I love that this series has kept me guessing and still surprises me 12 books in. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

Grim Reaper Charley Davidson is back in the final installment of Darynda Jones’ New York Times bestselling paranormal series--Summoned to Thirteenth Grave.
Charley Davidson, Grim Reaper extraordinaire, is pissed. She’s been kicked off the earthly plane for eternity—which is exactly the amount of time it takes to make a person stark raving mad. But someone’s looking out for her, and she’s allowed to return after a mere hundred years in exile. Is it too much to hope for that not much has changed? Apparently it is. Bummer.
She’s missed her daughter. She’s missed Reyes. She’s missed Cookie and Garrett and Uncle Bob. Now that she’s back on earth, it’s time to put to rest burning questions that need answers. What happened to her mother? How did she really die? Who killed her? And are cupcakes or coffee the best medicine for a broken heart? It all comes to a head in an epic showdown between good and evil in this final smart and hilarious novel.
I am so glad that I finally decided to tackle this series. It has been a whole lot of fun! I was really eager to see how things would wrap up in this final installment and I am happy to report that there were a lot of surprises that I did not see coming. This installment had all of the excitement and humor that I have come to expect from the series. I wasn’t sure what the death of Charley’s mother would have to do with the current events but I couldn’t wait to get some answers.
I really enjoyed Lorelei King’s narration and know that her performance added a lot to my overall enjoyment. I think that the best way to experience this series is through the audio. This narrator does such a great job of bringing this group of characters to life and adds just the amount of emotion to her reading. Humor is such an important part of this series and I think that the narrator’s delivery added a lot to those moments.
I do recommend this series to others! I am a little sad that I am so late to finally get around to reading these books but it has been a fun year of getting caught up. I have grown to love this group of characters and am glad that I went on this journey with them. I do hope to pick up some of the later short stories sometime soon.
Its a bittersweet feeling when a beloved series comes to an end. Glad the journey was a good one. I hope to one day read this series.
I started this series several years ago and read the first two books, and I did really enjoy the humor in them and the main characters, I just never got around to reading the rest of the series. And now I’ve forgotten so much about the first two books I’d have to start completely over before continuing on. Isn’t that the way it goes? ;D
I enjoyed these also. Lorelei King and her narration are a must!
Great reviews you have here. Can you believe I have never read these books? I really want to read more UF this year and this series is on my list. oooh its better in audio??? I will definitely notate that in my spreadsheet!
I think I might like this series, thanks for bringing it my attenton!
