All in all a busy week. Reading was rather slow just because of how many things were on my calendar. Starting next week, things should slow down just a bit.
Perfect Gravity by Vivien Jackson (NetGalley)
To Marry a Texas Outlaw by Linda Broday (NetGalley)
Blackwing by Ed McDonald (NetGalley)
Heart on Fire by Amanda Bouchet (Edelweiss)
I actually have a copy of Blackwing from First to Read but cannot get the file to open so I decided to request it on NetGalley ~ I have pretty high hopes for this one. I read Knight on the Texas Plains a couple of months ago and loved it so I decided to request the newest Linda Broday novel. I have been wanting to start reading the Tether series by Vivien Jackson ~ it sounds like my kind of read. I am super excited to be approved for Heart on Fire and will most likely start reading it right away.
Print Books
The Girl in the Tower by Katherine Arden (ARC from publisher)
The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden (Finished copy from publisher)
I really excited to start reading The Girl and the Tower and am thrilled to have a copy of The Bear and the Nightingale for my bookshelves. Thank you Random House – Del Ray!

I actually just borrowed the Night Mark from Tiffany Reisz. And Thomas De Quincey's Confessions of an Opium Eater (this one is not my taste)
I loved The Night Mark! I hope you enjoy all of your new books 🙂
Black Wing was a freebie at a book stall at a con this year here in Australia, and it's been sitting on myself since then. I don't quite know what to make of it — I've resolved to wait for some reviews before I figure out whether I want to read it or not.
I am pretty hopeful about it. It sounds pretty epic.
Wow that does sounds like a busy week! I need to get to a baseball game this year. We haven't gone in forever but the kids are old enough to take now. So maybe. Hope you enjoy your new books. Have a great week!
It was kind of nice to just go with my husband. We haven't been to very many this year but I think this will be the last one until next year.
You have a great haul. Have a great weekend and happy reading.
Thanks, Nadene!
OOoh nice!! Sounds like a busy week, but a good busy! I still need to read the second of Amanda's books, but I am definitely excited for Heart on Fire! Happy Reading!
My STS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!
Have a GREAT day!
Old Follower 🙂
I am very excited to get my hands on Heart on Fire. It is such a great series.
Awesome haul! I really want to read a Katherine Arden book this year! I've heard such good things about The Bear and the Nightingale! Have a great weekend and happy reading!
I really enjoyed The Bear and the Nightingale. I am really excited to read the next book in the trilogy.
Awesome haul. I hope you enjoy them, Carole. Happy reading and have a wonderful week. 🙂
Thanks, Geybie! Hopefully, these all end up being great reads.
I've been curious about Amanda Bouchet's work for a while! I really should try it sometime. Looks like a good haul for you — hope you enjoy!
My STS.
I have really enjoyed the first two books so I am looking forward to finding out how everything ends.
I didn’t win Powerball, either. I did kind of see the eclipse. It was cloudy, so I didn’t see it very well, but it was still cool. Enjoy your new books!
Aj @ Read All The Things!
It would have been nice to win. Too bad you had cloudy weather ~ the eclipse was pretty cool.
The Bear and the Nightingale is one I am considering. Have a good reading week.
That one is a great book. Thanks!
I haven't read any of your books…but I do have a copy of Seeing Red, which I hope to get to soon. Thanks for sharing, and how great that you got to see the eclipse in "near totality."
Enjoy your week, and here are MY WEEKLY UPDATES
I enjoyed Seeing Red and hope you do as well. Sandra Brown is one of my favorites.
You week sounds fun! I love the cover of The Bear and the nightingale. Have a great week.
I do love those covers!
Amazing haul!! I have heard about some of the books and they sound good so hope you enjoy reading them all!
~ Priyanka @ My StS
Thanks!
Looks like you've got some great books to get stuck into! Enjoy! 🙂
Thanks! These should keep me busy for a while.
You did have a busy week, but also a good one it sounds like. Such great goodies in that haul. I've got the new Linda Broday for review as well. Bear and Nightingale is on my wish list so I'll look forward to your thoughts on it.
Enjoy your next week, Carole!
I am really exicted to read more from Broday. The Bear and the Nightingale is a great book.
Wow, that does sound like one busy week. I didn't end up checking out the eclipse. I was too worried that I would end up with a migraine. lol! My eyes are so sensitive to any kind of light. It stinks. My husband wore the special glasses and still got a headache from looking. lol. I hope you love all of your new books and have a great week!
I did have just a bit of a headache afterward so you may have had the right idea. I only watched it for a few minutes.
Sounds like a nice busy week! Enjoy those new reads. 🙂
Thanks, Stormi!
I was hoping I would win the big jackpot here too. No such luck. At least you tried. I didn't. That is awesome that you got to leave work early to see the eclipse. I am pretty sure my boss wouldn't have allowed that. I was on vacation at the time though, so it wouldn't have mattered. As it was, we didn't even try to see the eclipse, but we noticed that many people around us were trying hard to see what they could see.
Your new books look so good! I told myself I wouldn't buy or request any books this month and then I ended up doing just the opposite. Oh well. I can try to abstain again in September, right?
Have a great week, Carole!
We only bought one $2 ticket but it was fun to dream. I was very surprised that we got to leave early for the eclipse. I hope you enjoyed your vacation.
Great set of books you got this week! I really want to read The Bear and the Nightingale series and I've been hearing lots of good things about Seeing Red!
Here’s my Stacking the Shelves!
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog
Those are both great books, Ronyell!
It seems like everyone was out there enjoying the solar eclipse recently. I am glad that it was something so many people got to enjoy 🙂
It was a lot more impressive than I thought it would be.
The Katherine Arden books have beautiful covers…I like those a lot! I think I would find it too slow for my tastes though. Next month I hit the apocalypse books and I'm so looking forward to that!
The covers are lovely. I hope you enjoy all of your apocalypse reads.
I really want to read Katherine Arden's books. I've heard so many great things.
I'm glad you got to enjoy the eclipse. Where I'm from it should have been viewable but unfortunately it was very cloudy and rainy so we missed the whole thing due to clouds 🙁
I hope you have a lovely week ahead of you.
Here is my STS
I am sorry to hear that the weather didn't cooperate with you for the eclipse. Thats too bad.
Oh what a great selection of books in different genres 😀 plenty to keep you busy and excited. I really want to read Arden books, it's my goal this year
I do like to mix things up a bit. I am looking forward to The Girl in the Tower.
some interesting new books for you. Happy reading!
Thanks!
A nice list of books there. We didn't get to see the eclipse because we had a thunderstorm at the time.
We were really lucky with the weather that day. I am sorry to hear that you missed it.
i got Broday too 😀 Yay
It sounds like a fun one!
The Bear and the Nightingale is a very pretty book. I'll have to look into it, just to see if I like the description enough to add that cover to my shelves. 🙂
I did enjoy that story but must agree that the book is beautiful.
oh you got some great books here. I am super excited to pick up Amanda Bouchet's book as well. Should be a good one.
I love that series so far. I hope this one is just as good!
So envious of the people who got totality or close to it. We had like 18%. Still cool, though. Hahaha – be careful, those 3-year-old can turn on you in an instant. 😀 Enjoy your books!
It was really pretty cool. You are right ~ they can turn quickly 🙂
The eclipse was about 80% where I am I think, and it was very cool! And hey, I guess it's better to be popular with the three-year-old crowd than no crowd, right? 😛 Those Bear and the Nightingale books are so pretty!
I was probably at about 95% so very close to totality. I think the 3 year old crowd is pretty awesome.
Aww man, I'm sorry you didn't win the PowerBall. 😮 But oy had a great week in books! Somehow I missed the fact that Heart on Fire is available on Edelweiss? I'm going to check it out now. Happy reading!
Have a fantastic day, Carole. =)
Alyssa @ The Eater of Books!
I was really excited to see Heart on Fire listed! I hope you can get your hands on a copy.
I thought the eclipse was neat as well and sounds like you had a good week. Bet things are picking up for you again now that school has started. I didn't win the powerball either – and played as well. And I was all excited to quit working – haha.
I had my retirement all planned out…then I found out I didn't win. Oh well, back to work.
I have heard so many good things about The Bear and the Nightingale. I had no idea the follow up was already out. Here in CT we didn't get much of the eclipse. I am really pissed that the lottery ticket was bought at a store that is on my way to work in Mass. Ugh! Oh well, maybe next time.
Have a great week!
I don't think that The Girl in the Tower is actually released until Janurary. You were really close to the winner then.
Sounds like you had a pretty good week even though you didn't win powerball. I won $4 bucks! I can buy myself half a Starbucks frappe 😉
I don't think I got a single number but I had fun dreaming about how to spend the money.
Yeah, we didn't win either. LOL I had plans Carole. Serious plans! But I did get some awesome books, so it's all good. We have to travel to NJ in September and I am hoping to see a Phillies game. Glad you had such a good week. Enjoy your haul.
I had some pretty detailed plans. I was ready. Thanks!
Yeas, so I didn't win either. Pity, that. Look forward to hearing your thoughts on the Girl in the Tower, so excited to read it.
Hope you enjoy all your new reads and have a great week! ~Aleen
I think The Girl in the Tower looks so good. I may try to sneak it in pretty soon.
