Stacking the Shelves #103

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life

This wasn’t a great week.  We had to say goodbye to our sweet Sassy.  She hasn’t been healthy for a while but it was still very hard to say goodbye.   We adopted her from the local shelter in 2003 so she has lived with us for a very long time.  She was at least 17 years old.   She had a few behavioral issues but was a very sweet cat that we loved very much.  We liked to call her the best worst cat ever.

Sassy spent many hours helping me read over the years and this was a pretty common view for me.   I am going to miss my helper.  My youngest daughter is a junior in high school and doesn’t remember a time when we didn’t have Sassy.  It seems strange not to have a cat in the house.  I do have 3 dogs so it is anything but quiet and we are adjusting.

Books for Review

About That Kiss by Jill Shalvis (Edelweiss)

I will be reviewing this one on Monday.  I decided to wait to download it from Edelweiss until I was ready to start reading.  I am enjoying it and probably would have finished it but I didn’t get as much reading done this week as normal.
Books Won
If You Knew Her by Emily Elgar (LibraryThing Early Reviewer)
I won an ARC of this book from LibraryThing.  I really don’t remember entering but I am sure that I did because the book sounds amazing.  This is my kind of book and I am looking forward to reading it.
What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

  1. i remember when we used to have dogs, I would miss them when they ran away. It's Malaysia and my parents are kinda lax in security =(

  2. So sorry to hear of your loss! We had to put down my grandpa's cat just before Christmas. She wasn't eating and the vet said she had a melon sized tumor in her. She wasn't the nicest cat, she was a little bit evil, but we still miss her too. She was there for my grandpa in all the years after we lost my grandma, she stayed with him until the very end.

Nice new reads! They're new to me ones but I hope you will enjoy them all!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

  3. I'm so sorry to hear about Sassy, Carole 🙁 Pets are such an integral part of our family, right? Sending love and hugs your way.
I absolutely loved About That Kiss, and I hope you enjoy it as well! If You Knew Her looks a bit spooky, and I can't wait to see what you'll think of it!
Have a wonderful weekend and happy reading.

  4. Ah, my sympathies as you grieve the loss of Sassy. My old cat was my reading partner, too. 🙂
Hey, fun that you won the book even if it took you by surprise that you won.

    Have a good weekend, Carole!

So sorry to read about Sassy! I hope you can remember the good times. 🙂 I hope you enjoy your new books!

    • We had 14 1/2 good years together and a lot of memories. I would say it is worth a bit of sadness. I saved her from the shelter and gave her a good home. She gave me a lot of love. It was a fair trade.

Hugs to your family. I know how you feel– we lost one of our elderly cats a couple of months ago.
If You Know Her– my kind of book! Hope you enjoy it and review it for us.

  7. Oh I'm sorry to hear about Sassy! That is so hard to lose an animal friend like that. And there's something about cats and reading… they often seem to want to be part of the process. 🙂 We lost one recently and it was SO tough.

If You Knew Her looks like a good read!

  8. I'm so sorry to hear about Sassy. I know it's difficult and I imagine your daughter especially is struggling with the loss. I got the Jill Shalvis too and I'm super excited about it. I'm enjoying this new series. I'm so curious about If You Knew Her. I saw the blurb on this just the other day and it sounds amazing. I hope you love it!

  9. Poor Sassy. 🙁

I hope the books you got and the ones on your TBR are able to take your mind off of the sad things.

  10. I am so sorry to hear about Sassy, Carole. She looks so much like my Gracie in that top photo. I know how heartbreaking it can be lose a beloved cat. I am thinking of you and sending hugs. If You Knew Her sounds like it will be a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy it!

  11. I am so sorry to hear about Sassy!! I know exactly how hard that is. My parents had a dog, but I was the one that picked him out as a puppy and my parents had to put him down last year because he had cancer and my dad refused to have him in pain. So I definitely understand how hard that it is and my prayers and thoughts go to you and your family.

I can't wait for your review of About That Kiss. I am reading that one this week and I am pretty excited.

  12. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Losing a fur baby is one of the hardest things to endure. Sending virtual hugs.

Look forward to your post on About that Kiss, mine is going up on Tuesday. 🙂

  13. I'm so sorry about Sassy. Something like that is always hard to handle. Hope you and your family are doing well and I'm sending good thoughts your way!

  14. Awww, I'm so sorry to hear about Sassy. It sounds like she had a beautiful and long life. It's so hard to lose them though, at any age. My thoughts go out to you.

  15. Oh no… I am so sorry for your loss. 17 years is so long for a cat though. I'm happy you could spend so many great years with her. I hope your heart can heal soon. I'm glad you have the doggies to keep you company as well.
