Stacking the Shelves #123

Posted June 16, 2018 by Carole in Stacking the Shelves / 56 Comments

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life

You may remember that I shared the fact that everything around my house seemed to be breaking.  I was convinced that nothing else would break for a while.  I was wrong.  Our van’s power window on the driver’s side went out with the window all the way down in the door of course.  We got that fixed and I guess the timing was pretty good since we are driving to Indiana and back on Sunday.  Could you imagine if the window would have been stuck down for that long round trip drive in the heat?

Books Added

The Mermaid by Christina Henry (NetGalley)

This will be the next book that I read.  I cannot wait to read this new book from Christina Henry since I absolutely loved Lost Boy when I read it last year.

Iron Gold by Pierce Brown (Publisher)
True-Blue Cowboy by Sara Richardson (Publisher)
Cowboy on My Mind by R.C. Ryan (Publisher)
Switch and Bait by Ricki Schultz (Publisher)
More Than Words by Mia Sheridan (Publisher)

Publishers were very generous with me this past week.  I am really exited to finally read Iron Gold and looking forward to getting my cowboy on with True-Blue Cowboy and Cowboy on My Mind.  I have seen several great reviews for More Than Words just this week so I know I will be fitting that one into my reading schedule as soon as I can.  Switch and Bait is one that I don’t know to much about but I am willing to give it a try.

Thank you Del Ray, Forever Romance, and Grand Central Publishing!

Finn Fancy Necromancy by Randy Henderson (Purchase)
Waistcoats & Weaponry by Gail Carriger (Purchase)
The Hawley Book of the Dead by Chrysler Szarlan (Purchase)
Cemetery Girl: The Pretenders by Charlaine Harris, Christopher Golden, Don Kramer, and Danielle Rudoni (Purchase)

I actually bought these books several weeks ago and forgot to include them in my Stacking the Shelves post.  I picked these four books up at my local dollar store for $1 each.  I am usually pretty quick to add books to my cart when they only cost $1 but I think I picked some pretty good ones this time.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

  1. I hope your luck turns for the better this time! I still feel like I am waiting for the axe to fall for me. Taking it one day at a time though! Yay for new reads though! I still have The Mermaid on my pile to read since I won it on Goodreads awhile back. I don't know when I will get to it sadly as I am trying to juggle too many different review books and books for upcoming signings!

Which by the way, are you going to the Sabaa Tahir or Richelle Mead signing this month? I'll be there! πŸ˜€

My STS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

  2. I hope nothing else breaks this week. Yikes! When it rains, it pours. At least you got a lot of publisher love this week. I have read and enjoyed a few my Sheridan, and look forward to your thoughts on More Than Words.

  3. That's too bad about the window but glad you got it fixed! A long drive on a hot day with an open window sounds like it could have been pretty miserable! Looks like a great mail week! So many fantastic looking books. Hope the era of breaking things is well and truly done and this week is great!

  4. Ugh I had a window problem like that once, and of course it happens when the window is DOWN! So aggravating! Glad you didn't have to go all the way to Indiana that way- that would be awful.

Yay for the new books! Waistcoats & Weaponry- love that title. πŸ™‚

  5. So many interesting choices. I have the first 3 Red Rising books on audio and plan to get to them, sometime. So I also want to read Iron Gold. Well the window would be better down than up if the AC didn't work. I took a 3 week road trip in 90+ degree temp with AC that failed the first day. We would have died with the window up but it was so noisy with the window down. Glad you got it fixed tho! Anne – Books of My Heart

    • I really enjoyed the first 3 Red Rising books and do have the audios lined up for a re-read. Iron Gold is a big book but I hope to fit it in before the end of the year. That trip with no AC does not sound very pleasant but I lived without AC when I was younger so I would have survived (but glad I didn't have to!).

  6. Glad you could get the window fixed before that trip it would have been killer in this heat! You got a lot of great books! I loved Lost Boy but The Mermaid just doesn't sound like something I would like so I will see after you review it if it changes my mind. πŸ™‚

  7. Waistcoats and Weaponry for a dollar? Good on you. The book gods must have known you needed a cheer-me-up after the van window getting stuck so you were showered with cool books. πŸ™‚

    Enjoy your weekend, Carole!

  8. Wow you got tons of new books! I've seen a lot of excitement over Iron Gold. I've not read anything from that series in a long time, since book two. I hope you enjoy all of your new books!

Have a fabulous weekend, Carole. =)

    Check out my post!

  9. WOW, $1 books – I try to sometimes grab them when the library has their sale – which I kinda missed this June, so have to wait to the October one and hopefully grab up some good reads than. Have a great week!

  10. I am so glad you were able to get the window on the van fixed. Everything does seem to happen an once, doesn't it? I hope you had a nice trip! We are planning a trip to visit my mom next month, but may have to cancel as our cat care has fallen through. The Mermaid sounds really interesting. I haven't read her other book, but I would like to. Your new books are drool worthy, Carole! Several sound so good! I hope you enjoy them all. Have a great week!

  11. I'm glad the window was fixed before the trip. A lot of my friends don't have air conditioning in their car so the windows are usually down, but it's SO HOT! Ooh I'm curious what yo think of The Mermaid. I want to read that one, and just anything by that author really. All her books sound great.

  12. What dollar store do you find such great books at? I need to see if we have one around here. Sorry to hear about the window but at least it happened BEFORE you went on that drive. I will be patiently waiting to hear of you like Mermaid as much as Lost Boy. That was one of my favorite reads last year and I'm almost afraid Mermaid won't measure up.

  13. gah lucky, I don't have a dollar store nearby. Sorry everything around your house is breaking D: hoping most of it is an easy fix
