Stacking the Shelves #136

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life
This seemed like a busy week.  My daughter had an application for a scholarship that had to go out this week and I ended up spending quite a bit of time helping her put everything together and proofreading the paper she had to write to apply for the scholarship.  I am not sure how many scholarships will be given out but we will be keeping our fingers crossed that she gets this one.

Marching band is in full swing and has taken over our lives in a lot of ways.  My daughter is up and out of the house very early every day for practice before school and is out every evening for some kind of practice.  I ate dinner alone most nights this week with everyone else running out of the house almost non-stop.  We had a football game halftime performance on Friday night and an all-day competition on Saturday.  I usually have helped with all of the heavy props in the past but I don’t feel that I am quite ready for it this year since I am still healing from surgery.  I kind of feel bad about it seeing all of the hard work being done but it was really nice to get a chance to sit in the stands and just enjoy all of the bands.  Our band took 2nd place overall so it was a very rewarding day for the group.

My daughter and I went to the dollar store last week and left with this pile of books.   I think we found some great new additions for our bookshelves and you can’t beat the $1 per book price tag.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

  1. Wow! Sounds like super busy times! And oooh…you gave your blog a new look (right? I lose my mind on occasion. It feels new at least!)!! Very pretty!

Nice new reads too! All new to me ones, some look familiar but I know I've never read any! Hope you enjoy them all!

    Here's my STS

    Have a GREAT day!

  2. I have my fingers and toes crossed for your daughter. I hope she gets the scholarship. Nice stack of books there. I am a Starbound fan. I thought the second book has such a strong Romeo and Juliet vibe.

  3. I know what you mean about not being able to help like you usually do–but you need to take care of you right now and I am glad you are doing so. Healing takes time. I love that you keep us posted on your daughter's activities! Good luck to her with the scholarship applications! And congratulations to the band for doing so well!

Your new books all look great! I don't go to the dollar store often enough. Have a great week, Carole!

  4. Good luck to your daughter and hey, you've earned getting to enjoy her last season. That's a great haul. I've read Roomies some time ago and really enjoyed it a lot.

  5. I loved band. I was in band – jazz, marching and concert band in college. I played in a community band for a bit also.

I don't really know any of the books you got, so I'll be interested to read your reviews!

I think I'm finally all healed from my procedure. The hurricane threat is mostly over. Now just to continue with my daughter's medical stuff. Have a good reading week! Anne – Books of My Heart

  6. Good luck with the scholarship applications! I remember doing that! Very smart to not get involved in the heavy lifting though I know that was hard but how nice to be able to sit and really enjoy the performance. And congratulations to coming in 2nd! Hope you're having a great week!
