Stacking the Shelves #168

Posted April 27, 2019 by Carole in Stacking the Shelves / 22 Comments

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life
This was a pretty normal week at my house.  Normal for now at least.  My husband’s start date for his new job has been pushed back a week.  We are hoping that it doesn’t get pushed back again.  He was the primary source of income for our household so the fact that he hasn’t worked in almost a month is really hurting.

My daughter got to play her solo and an ensemble piece at the State Music Festival this week and later that same day she was honored with an award at school.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to be there for either occasion since they were held during the workday.

I feel like I did a bit better with the blog this week but my reading hasn’t been so great.  It is harder to get any quiet time in the house to get a lot of reading done with my husband home all of the time.  It just feels harder to get through the books that I know I should be reading right now so I am just letting myself pick up whatever sounds good.

Books Added

Top Secret by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy

I am really excited about this book and couldn’t stop myself from starting it right away.

Highland Crown by May McGoldrick (Goodreads Win)

I won this book on Goodreads back in January and had kind of given up on it so I was happy to see it finally show up this week.

Beyond the Night by Colleen Gleason (Audible Purchase)
Malevolent by Jana DeLeon (Audible Purchase)

I had a $5 coupon on Audible and was able to use it pick up these two books.

Marvels, Mochas, and Murder by Christine Zane Thomas (For Review)
The Haunting of Hillwood Farm by Katherine Knight (For Review)
Alter by Jeremy Robinson (For Review)

I have already listened to Marvels, Mochas, and Murder and enjoyed it.  I thought that Alter sounded good and since Luke Daniels handles the narration, I decided it was worth a try.  I am kind of taking a chance with The Haunting of Hillwood Farm but I have a good feeling about it.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

  1. I got the email for Top Secret but since I'm on a work trip in Puerto Rico, I wouldn't have been able to promote it very well so I opted out (kinda regretting it big time). I hope your husband starts his new job soon. And congrats to your daughter!

  2. Well, hopefully your husband will start soon and things can get back to normal soon. Congrats to your daughter! Wow! She's really amazing!!

Nice new reads too!! They're all new to me ones but I hope you will enjoy them all!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!

  3. Yeah, hopefully the job situation will get moving and you'll all be able to get back into your routines. Yay for your daughter's awards.
Ha! A friend was complaining to me last night that her GR giveaway book hadn't shown up and it had been a month. I told her that sometimes it took longer than that. You just proved my point. πŸ™‚

    Have a great weekend, Carole!

  4. I hope Mr Carole gets started in his new job very soon-it would be a weight off your mind for sure. I'm a wreck over the upcoming GoT episode on Sunday-part of me is scared to watch!

  5. Fingers crossed you husband starts his job soon. It must be hard for him being around the house all day too. Boo to having awards for kids during the day. The school always made me feel like a subpar parent, because I couldn't just take off all the time for Mom & Me or Donuts with Dad. I usually tried to send her grandparents as my proxy, but I missed out. Wow! Four months to get a book is a long time. I would have thought it was never coming as well.

  6. Congratulations on your daughter's award. How wonderful. I hope that your husband can get started on his new job this time. And I've struggled with reading too. I'm working two jobs at the moment and too tired to stay awake.

  7. I hope this week goes much more smoothly. At least your daughter had a great week!

I'm still in frenzy mode with so many things I want to do and so many things I want to read. I can't go to sleep at night with my busy mind and I wake up before the alarm goes off. Mostly I'm not all that tired either. I was all caught up but I read things so now I need to write reviews again! lol.

  8. Glad that giveaway prize finally showed up.
The ARC book's title is pitched perfectly for book bloggers. I hope you get some peace in which to read it!

  9. Congrats to your daughter, and hope your husband's new job goes great! My reading's been off and on the last week or so so I can totally relate.

This ARC is Top Secret! Haha love it!

  10. I hope your husband starts his new job soon! It is hard to concentrate on a book when real life worries are swirling around in your brain.

Hope This ARC is Top Secret is good. Love the name! πŸ™‚

  11. Keeping my fingers crossed that the job starts soon. And just read whenever you feel up to it. Take my word for it, I know how it can suffer when life gets in the way and the important thing is to take care of yourself.

  12. Ah yes, it can be tricky when you expect things to start and then it gets pushed back. Hopefully that won't happen any more! Enjoy your new books and hopefully you will have more time for reading soon x
