Stacking the Shelves #174

Posted June 15, 2019 by Carole in Stacking the Shelves / 15 Comments

I am really excited to participate in Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and Reading Reality.

My Life
This week was rather busy.  My van was officially totaled by the insurance company.  I don’t have my van but I am still waiting to be reimbursed for it.  My daughter has been in and out of the house helping with summer band camp and babysitting my niece and nephew.  She is also doing a lot of normal teenager stuff.  We only ended up having a group of teens over once this week.

If you follow hockey, you probably know that the St. Louis Blues won the Stanley Cup this week.  I live in St. Louis and it has been a pretty big deal around here.  People were shooting off fireworks and doing a lot of celebrating.  It was fun to see everyone so excited about a team.  They are predicting 500,000 fans will attend today’s parade.

I have been puppy sitting my neighbor’s dogs for the past few days.   They have a pug chihuahua mix that is around 8 years old and a 4-month-old puppy.  Puppies are cute but they are a whole lot of work!  I don’t think we will be getting a puppy in our house anytime soon.  It has been kind of crazy running back and forth between the two houses to take care of both my dogs and the neighbor’s as well.

Books Added

Thirteen by Steve Cavanagh (Publisher)
Priest of Lies by Peter McLean (Publisher)
The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh (Bookish First / Publisher)

I have already read one of these books.  Priest of Lies is amazing!  Seriously, I cannot recommend it enough.  I am also really excited to get my hands on a copy of The Beautiful and Thirteen.

Broken World by Kate L. Mary (Author)
Shattered World by Kate L. Mary (Author)
Mad World by Kate L. Mary (Author)
The Beast of London by L.D. Goffigan (Narrator / Audiobook Boom)

I took on a few audiobooks to review and have already finished two and am working on a third.  Kate L. Mary’s Broken World series has been great so far and The Beast of London was a lot of fun.

What books do you add to your shelves this week?
Let me know in the comments and be sure to leave a link to your own STS post!

  1. Your poor van! I know how you feel. Our car was totaled by a truck on a ferry last year :/ I hope you find a new one

  2. Aww! The puppy is so cute!! Puppies are a lot of work, but so are dogs when they are older. Our two are in the 10+ range, and one has cancer, so we're keeping him happy and comfortable but he requires medicine daily and he doesn't like taking it easily anymore. Used to be you could wrap it in cheese and he eat it, now, he's gotten wise to our ways.

Oh my god, I am feeling the envy over The Beautiful! Despite my numerous blog posts and tweets, I can't seem to get their attention! I've been dying to read a new vampire book for ages and it seems they are denying a big vampire fan here! I hope you enjoy all your lovely new reads!

My StS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

  3. It sounds like a busy week made better by reading. I saw Broken World is at my library so I am going to try to listen to it. Have a great week, with reading and a new car?

  4. Aww the dogs are cute. I remember when we first got Falcor, he was just 6 months old and had no training at all. He was a lot of work.

  5. Haha! Fun times for St. Louis folk. Ah yes, puppies. We've mostly had adult adopted animals over the years, but once there was a puppy and it kept us busier than three adult dogs at once.
Hopefully, insurance will come through and you can get some wheels soon.

Yes, nice haul. Glad you had a few fab ones out of the stack already. I got one unsolicited this week that looks promising. I might try to fit it in somehow.

  6. Puppy sitting must have been fun! And it sounds like you've had a bit more time to yourselves in the house. Hoping that reimbursement comes through soon. And yay for new books! I am curious about the Renee Ahdieh book DD:

  7. I don't watch a ton of hockey anymore but I did tune in to watch the end of Game 7. Happy for the Blues! And I got a kick out of Brett hull the game before that- he was a little happy, shall we say? Haha. I became a fan of his when he was briefly with Detroit.

    Congrats to St Louis!

  8. Yeah Blues! That was quite the final match! Puppies are a handful even though they are so adorable. LOL

  9. Those pups are adorable. We're batting around getting a friend for Cass when we're both ready but I keep remembering how much work a puppy can be. Hope you get some great reading time in this week!

  10. Congrats on your hockey win! <3 I live in New Hampshire, so we typically root for the Bruins. Our sister office is in ST Louis… so there was quite the fun competition going on there! When the Blues one, St Louis "hacked" our computers and put the Stanley Cup image and the Blue's logo on all of our computer backgrounds. Then later in the day, they "hacked" our phones and played your teams theme song over everyone's intercoms LOL! Now at our big convention in July, the owner that resides in New Hampshire with us has to wear a Blue's jersey on the main stage! 🙂
